Stanford’s Hutchins tabbed men’s soccer Player of the Week

Sep 24, 2013

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD goalkeeper Drew Hutchins was voted the Pac-12 men’s soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 17-23, the Conference office announced today.

Hutchins, a senior from Morrisville, Pa., recorded his second and third shutouts of the season to help the Cardinal to wins over College of Charleston and Colgate. Against Charleston, Hutchins made four saves, including two full-extension efforts in the final seven minutes, to preserve the Cardinal shutout. Two days later, Hutchins fended off the Colgate efforts to help Stanford win its fourth-straight match, equaling its longest such streak since 2010. His 15 saves on the year are tied for fifth in the Pac-12, and he ranks fifth outright in goals-against average (0.96).

The honor is Hutchins’ first-career weekly nod. It marks Stanford’s 16th overall player of the week selection.

Stanford finishes its non-conference slate this week, playing on Friday afternoon at UC Santa Barbara at 4:30 p.m. PT.

Pac-12 Networks will feature the Cardinal six more times this season, including the Pac-12 play opener versus Washington on Thurs., Oct. 3. Pac-12 men’s soccer will have 28 matches overall air on the Pac-12 Networks. For the full television schedule, visit www.pac-12.com
