Three named NCAA men's soccer first-team All-Americans

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA’s Steve Birnbaum, WASHINGTON’s Taylor Peay and UCLA’s Leo Stolz were all dubbed first-team NCAA Division I men’s soccer All-Americans, as announced today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). 

Birnbaum, one of three team captains for the Golden Bears, received his first-career All-American honor after helping Cal reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I men’s soccer tournament. The senior finished the season with 10 goals and 21 points, which led the team and were tied for second and third in the Pac-12, respectively. A native of Irvine, Calif., he was also a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, a first-team All-Pac-12 selection and a Pac-12 All-Academic first-team honoree. 

Peay, another semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, anchored a strong Husky defense throughout the year that helped UW reach the national quarterfinals in the NCAA Tournament. He scored six goals throughout the season in addition to his defensive efforts. The Salt Lake City, Utah native is a first-team All-Pac-12 and receives his first-career All-American honor. 

Stolz was recently named the Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Player of the Year and is also a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. He finished his junior campaign leading the Pac-12 in points (30) and goals (11), which ranked 13th and 20th in the nation, respectively. A native of Munich, Germany, Stolz also had four game-winning goals. He was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week four times throughout the season.
