Oregon

As expected, the Ducks dominated the first day of the NCAA outdoor track and field championships, with Edward Cheserek winning the 10k and both the Oregon men and women sitting in first place. Our Taylor Dutch is an absolute boss for the track and field coverage she hath provided.

Arizona

Greg Hansen of the Arizona Daily Star produces a very nice feature on Arizona distance runner Lawi Lalang, the Pac-12 track scholar-athlete of the year. Lalang will compete in the 5k and 1,500 at the NCAA championships.

California

Finally, the World Cup is here! As such, I suggest you Czech out this Cal World Cup soccer blog, with insights coming from Cal midfielder Connor Hallisey and forward Omid Jalali.

UCLA

FootballScoop points out that UCLA’s Adrian Klemm is the only black offensive line coach in any of the five major conferences in college football. The site did a study and found that only five of the 160 offensive line coaches in the NFL or Football Bowl Subdivision are black (3.1 percent).

Arizona State

The Arizona Republic’s Paola Boivin documents ex-Arizona State basketball player Justin Allen’s battle with cancer. He was told there was a 90 percent chance he wouldn’t be able to have kids as a result of his diagnosis but now has two children. Good story to read with Father’s Day coming up (and a good reminder for this guy to get his pops something).

Washington

Future Dawg Budda Baker is the Seattle Times prep athlete of the year. If all goes well in camp, he might be the starting free safety for Washington as a true frosh in 2014. Also, Percy Allen caught up with Desmond Simmons to inquire about his decision to transfer to St. Mary’s (this is probably the best read of the whole link roundup. Simmons is very open in this interview – well done, Percy).

Stanford

Get your popcorn ready, because Stanford is hosting the UCONN national championship teams in both men’s and women’s basketball. The women will play Nov.17, while the men will do so Jan. 17.

Washington State

Hey dude/dudette, did you see that Washington State head coach Mike Leach and staff caught a big fish on a recent fishing trip? “Big” is an understatement; this thing is ginormous.

Oregon State

Since the sons of head coach Wayne Tinkle and assistant coach Stephen Thompson Sr. are both top-125 recruits in the class of 2015 (Tres Tinkle and Stephen Thompson Jr.), Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo! Sports writes that Oregon State might not have to look far for talent. This, of course, will be true if indeed Thompson Sr. is hired as an assistant at Oregon State; the Beavers have not made it official yet.

Colorado

BuffZone gives us a little write-up on Colorado volleyball outside hitter Taylor Simpson heading to China with the Pac-12 all-star team. Want some more particulars on the Pac-12 all-star volleyball team’s trip to China? Just click that conference link, yo. The team arrives in Shanghai June 17.

Utah

The Deseret News is reporting that Utah quarterback Micah Thomas is transferring (he was moved to wide receiver in the spring). Where's he headed? Sorry, can't answer that for ya yet.

USC

Conquest Chronicles asks, “what’s next for USC in life after sanctions?”
