Roundup: Tinkle, Krystkowiak in running for Coach of the Year honors

Pac-12 Networks Analyst Kevin O’Neill thinks Wayne Tinkle should take home AP Coach of the Year honors, while Connor Letourneau gives us an everything-you-need-to-know game preview of Oregon State-Arizona State, which is slated for a 5 p.m. PT/6 p.m. MT tip on the Pac-12 Networks.

Meanwhile, Kyle Goon writes that Utah basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak is in the running for coaching awards along with Wayne Tinkle.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports that Robert Upshaw is considering heading to the D-League for the rest of the 2014-15 season. I know about 18 teams in the 18-team D-League that would love his services. You know what was awesome? Marshawn Lynch at Super Bowl media day answering every question with, “I’m here so I won’t get fined.” Well, at one point he said, “I’m JUST here so I won’t get fined,” so I guess you could say he varied things up from time to time.

Also from Super Bowl media day, we learn that New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is a fan of Arizona State football coach Todd Graham. At the top of the page is an on-camera interview Mike Bercovici does with Shane Vereen, and it’s pretty humorous (Berco has a future on the Pac-12 Networks for sure). Additionally, Arizona State men’s golf won the Arizona Intercollegiate, while junior Max Rottluff took home individual medalist honors.

Big news on The Farm – Stanford basketball coach Johnny Dawkins said freshman forward Reid Travis will return to action Wednesday night against Washington (8 p.m. PT, ESPNU). He has not played since the end of December with a stress fracture.

Arizona welcomes Oregon into Tucson for the back end of the Pac-12 Networks doubleheader Wednesday night (7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MT), and Steve Rivera of FOX Sports Arizona writes that the Wildcats are “settling into roles” as we approach the midway point of the conference season.

Jonah Bolden has been cleared to practice with UCLA basketball, and he did so in front of the media for the first time Tuesday. Jack Wang gives us some video evidence; I know it’s just 55 seconds of tape, but man he looks good.

Colorado men’s basketball is hitting up the LA schools this weekend, so Askia Booker is excited to go home (he’s a Los Angeles native).

Oregon defensive lineman Sam Kamp is retiring from football due to health concerns, and Andrew Greif has the story for us. Kamp had one year of eligibility remaining.

Mike Leach officially announced Tuesday that Eric Mele is Washington State’s special teams coordinator after serving in the role on an interim basis last season once Eric Russell was fired.
