18 players drafted on day two of the MLB Draft

SAN FRANCISCO— The Pac-12 Conference saw another 18 players drafted on day two of the three-day Major League Baseball draft, giving the Conference of Champions 24 over the two days.

Arizona State has seen five players drafted while Pac-12 champion UCLA has had four players called. The Mariners and Pirates have both drafted four Pac-12 players so far.

It was a flurry of Pac-12 activity to start the day, as three players—WASHINGTON catcher Austin Rei (Red Sox) and outfielder Braden Bishop (Mariners) and OREGON reliever Garrett Cleavinger (Orioles) – went in the third round and three more – UCLA's Cody Poteet (Marlins), OREGON's Josh Graham (Braves) and OREGON STATE's Jeff Hendrix (Yankees) -- went in the fourth round. Hendrix and Bishop were both two-time All-Pac-12 Defensive team members in the outfield.

ARIZONA STATE 9-game winner Ryan Kellogg (Cubs), and closer Ryan Burr (Diamondbacks) went in the fifth round, as did STANFORD's lone draftee so far, shortstop Drew Jackson (Mariners). First baseman Chris Paul (Mariners) became CALIFORNIA's first draftee, going in the sixth round as one of four Pac-12 players drafted by the Mariners.

Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year David Berg (Cubs), out of UCLA went in the sixth round, as did USC LHP Tyler Gilbert (Phillies).

In the seventh round OREGON's Mitchell Tolman (Pirates) was one of three Ducks drafted, joining potential Pac-12 teammates Kevin Newman, Kevin Kramer and UTAH's Bret Helton (9th round) in the Bucs' system. Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, USC catcher Garrett Stubbs (Astros) went in the ninth round. WASHINGTON STATE reliever Sam Triece (Rays) and ARIZONA STATE's Darren Gilles (Mariners) both went in the tenth round.

The Pac-12 had 42 players on opening day MLB rosters this April. The draft concludes on Wednesday.
