Roundup: Big day for Prandini, Pac-12 alumni at USATF outdoor championships

The third day of action at the 2015 USATF outdoor championships in Eugene, Oregon is in the books. Six Pac-12 schools had current atheletes or alumni in action Saturday and the conference was represented well across the board. Here is a recap of the top storylines from Pac-12 schools with athletes competing.

It was a big day for Wildcat alums as Georganne Moline advanced to the Women’s 400m hurdles finals by finishing third in the semis, while Nick Mossberg finished sixth in the men’s pole vault final. Current Wildcat Nnenya Hailey also took part in the women’s 400m hurdles, but didn’t not qualify for the finals. Her teammate Taylor Bush participated in the women’s hammer throw final, but fouled on all three attempts.

Magdalyn Ewen was the only current Sun Devil participating in Saturday’s events. She finished seventeenth in the women’s discuss final with a best mark of 52.77m (173-1). Meanwhile, alumna Charonda Williams qualified for the 200m dash final with a time of 22.63 in the semis, good enough for a fourth-place finish.

Colorado alum Emma Coburn took first place in the Women’s 3000m steeplechase final with a time of 9:15:59.

No surprise, the hometown Ducks had a huge showing in Eugene Saturday. Duck superstar Jenna Prandini continued her national dominance by winning the women’s 200m prelims with a time of 22.18. Jasmine Todd also made a huge splash for the Ducks with school record 6.84m (22-5 ¼) that was good for fourth in the women’s long jump final.The Ducks also got a sixth-place finish from Marcus Chambers in the men's 400m final and were exceptionally represented in the men's 1,500m final with six current and former Oregon athletes taking part. Alumnus Matthew Centrowitz took first with a time of 3:37.25.

All-American Valarie Allman finished tenth in the women’s discuss final with a best mark of 56.12m (184-1) and Dylan Duvio finished in a three-way tie for ninth in the men’s pole vault with a best mark of 5.40m (17-8 ½).

The day got off to a great start for USC when senior sprinter Beejay Lee finished third in the men’s 200m with a time of 20.18 that was good enough to push him onto the semis. Junior Alexis Faulknor was also able to qualify for semis of the women’s 200m by finishing fifteenth. USC alums had a big day as well as Allyson Felix won the women’s 400m dash final in 50.19, Bryshon Nellum finished fourth in the men’s 400m dash finalin 45.18 and Dalilah Muhammad qualified for the women’s 400m hurdles finals in a time of 56.15.

Competing in the USATF outdoor junior championships, Utah freshman Sarah Feeny finished second in the 1500m with a time of 4:21.50. The finishe qualified her for the 2015 Pan American junior athletics championships July 31 - August 2 in Edmonton, Canada. Sophomore Megan Glasmann set a school-record with a throw of 53.96m (177-0), but finished tenth in the event at the senior competition level.
