NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament third round: Three Pac-12 teams in action
Three Pac-12 teams were in action this weekend in the third round of the NCAA women's soccer tournament with Stanford defeating Arizona 3-0 in a Pac-12 showdown Saturday and USC coming up short against Virginia in a 2-0 loss Sunday.
USC battled throughout and got six shots on goal, but fell to the top-seeded Virginia 2-0 Sunday in Charlottesville, Va.
The Trojans gave up a goal in the 42nd minute to fall behind, and the Cavaliers pulled away in the 80th minute with another score. USC's offense was active throughout the game, getting six shots on goal, but Virginia goalie Morgan Stearns was able to turn away the Trojan attack each time.
No. 1-seeded Stanford grabbed the lead early and never let it go in a 3-0 victory over Arizona in a Pac-12 showdown Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Cardinal got on the board with a goal from Megan Turner in the 17th minute and Ryan Walker-Hartshorn salted away the game with goals in the 76th and 88th minutes. The Cardinal also got a dominating performance from its defense, which allowed just three shots on goal. Stanford advances to a quarterfinal game next week and will face the winner of Sunday's Florida vs. Duke matchup.
