GOLD RIVER, Calif. - For the first time since 2009, CALIFORNIA claimed the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Rowing Championship in the same year. The men snapped a six-year drought en route to Cal’s 15th Pac-12 title, while the women garnered their eighth crown in the last nine years and 10th overall.

On the men’s side, California collected 72 team points for the title, winning three of the four scoring races. WASHINGTON came close in second place with 65 points and OREGON STATE totaled 47 points to round out the podium placing.

With the Conference title on the line in the varsity eight race, the Golden Bears held on strong throughout the entire course and finished in 5:39.8, 2.1 seconds ahead of the Huskies. STANFORD crossed the line in 5:56.1.

The Golden Bears claimed wins in the second varsity eight as well as the novice eight. They opened scoring competition with a .07 win in the novice eight, stopping the clock in 5:42.46 ahead of second place Washington (5:42.53). Oregon State placed third (6:17.8), followed by WASHINGTON STATE (6:30.7), OREGON (6:34.2) and COLORADO (6:35.3).

Cal won its first M2V8+ title since 2013 in 5:48.0. Washington placed second in 5:52.3 and Stanford rounded out the medalist honors in third with a time of 6:02.0.

The Huskies took home the final race title of the afternoon in the third varsity eight. Washington outpaced California in 5:51.9, while the Bears crossed the line in 5:58.0. Oregon State finished in third in 6:04.5.

On the women’s side, Cal also won three of the four scoring races. The Golden Bears claimed the team title with 45 points, followed by Stanford in second place (35 points) and Washington in third with 33.5 points.

With a 10-point team victory margin, the Golden Bears capped the day with a win in the varsity eight for the second-straight year. They crossed the line in 6:22.0, just ahead of second-place finisher Stanford (6:22.8). USC had its highest finish and medalist honors with a third-place finish in 6:29.7.

The story was the same for the second varsity eight, with California leading the competition in a time of 6:26.8. Washington placed second in 6:30.6 and Stanford in third in 6:38.5.

The Huskies took home the third varsity eight title in a comfortable margin. Washington won in 6:30.6, with California placing second in 6:37.4 and Washington State in 6:45.2. California took home the final trophy in the varsity four, placing first in 7:04.7. Washington followed close behind 7:08.8 and Stanford for bronze in 7:15.4.

Next up for Pac-12 crews include the 2016 NCAA Women’s Championships, held at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., May 27-29. The IRA Championships will run June 3-5 in Mercer Lake, N.J.
