Roundup: Team Colorado 2 wins away from $2 million

Colorado

Team Colorado has advanced to the semifinals of The Basketball Tournament, defeating Team Utah 83-78 in the quarterfinals to secure a berth in Philly next weekend. Former Buff Marcus Hall paced Team Colorado with 22 points, putting the squad of CU alums two wins away from a $2 million check.

Utah

Jason Hills of the Edmonton Journal writes that the parents of twins Katherine and Michelle Plouffe are proud of their daughters making the Canadian women’s national basketball team that will play in the Rio Olympics. Michelle had a heck of a career at Utah.

UCLA

Speaking of Team Canada, former Bruin Nirra Fields was named to the Canadian Olympic team, becoming the fifth Bruin women’s basketball player to be named to an Olympic roster.

Arizona State

Arizona State has hired Matt Thurmond as its men’s golf head coach, Jeff Metcalfe reports. Thurmond, a two-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year, was the head coach at Washington for 15 seasons, leading the Dawgs to 12 NCAA Tournaments.

Washington State

Three women from Washington State brought home gold from the Global Challenge Volleyball Tournament in Croatia last week. Cougar head coach Jen Greeny, junior Casey Schoenlein and sophomore McKenna Woodford were all part of the U.S. Collegiate National Team's European Tour squad that went undefeated in the U22 competition.

USC

Incoming USC freshmen track athletes Anna Cockrell and Michael Norman won gold medals at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Poland on Friday. Cockrell was first in the women’s 400m IH, while Norman took gold in the men’s 200m dash.

Washington

From last week – Donaven Dorsey is transferring from Washington men’s basketball, according to Christian Caple. Dorsey will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Oregon

Marcus Mariota is on the cover of the 2016 Tennessee Titans media guide, so that’s cool (hat tip to Geoffrey C. Arnold of The Oregonian for this one).

California
