Pac-12 gymnastics teams ready to wrap up regular season on top

SAN FRANCISCO -- All eight Pac-12 gymnastics teams will close out the regular season against non-conference competition this coming weekend, including No. 17 CALIFORNIA and No. 5 UTAH taking on national powers No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 7 Georgia, respectively. 

Five Pac-12 teams are ranked among the top 25 in the nation in the RQS this week, including three in the top 10. ARIZONA dropped back out of the top-25 after an upset loss to ARIZONA STATE. Ranked Pac-12 gymnastics teams include No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 UTAH, No. 9 OREGON STATE, No. 14 WASHINGTON, and No. 17 CALIFORNIA.

ARIZONA STATE won their first conference meet since 2014 in the Territorial Cup meet against then- No. 23 ARIZONA. The Gym Devils' last Pac-12 win also game in the rivalry meet against ARIZONA.

In the individual rankings, four of the nation's top-10 all-arounders hail from the Pac-12, the most of any conference. UTAH freshman MyKayla Skinner has held strong at No. 2 in the nation most of the season. UCLA freshman Madison Kocian is No. 4, UTAH's Baely Rowe moved up to No. 7 (from No. 12) this week, and OREGON STATE's Kaytianna McMillan is No. 9. Skinner and Rowe tied for the top all-around score in the nation this past weekend.

UTAH freshman phenom MyKayla Skinner continues to build on her position as the most decorated "Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week" of all time. She has now won the award seven times in her first season in the Pac-12.

The Pac-12 added another couple of perfect 10.0s to the resume over this past weekend. UTAH's MyKayla Skinner got top marks on the floor vs. STANFORD and UCLA's Katelyn Ohashi was perfect on beam in the Bruins's win over CALIFORNIA.

UCLA is leading the conference on bars and beam, and ranks second nationally on bars and third nationally on beam.  UCLA freshman Kyla Ross ranks first in the nation on the bars, with teammate Christine Peng Peng Lee coming it at second in the nation on bars. Ross ranks seventh in the nation on beam and teammate Katelyn Ohashi is now in fifth place in the nation on beam after a perfect score last week.

MyKayla Skinner and UTAH lead the conference on floor and vault, ranked fourth nationally in both. Skinner ranks third nationally on the floor exercise and seventh nationally on vault.

Other Pac-12 gymnasts ranked in the top-10 nationally on various events include STANFORD's Elizabeth Price-- ranked fourth on bars, OREGON STATE's Madeline Gardiner --ranked sixth on beam, UTAH's Baely Rowe -- ranked eighth on beam, and UCLA's Madison Kocian -- ranked eighth on floor.

UTAH averaged an NCAA gymnastics record 15,224 fans a meet at home this year to lead all NCAA women’s sports teams in attendance. UTAH's 2017 all-sport women’s attendance title is its seventh all time and fourth in a row. The Ute gymnasts were also the nation’s top drawing team in all of women’s sports in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. UTAH’s newly minted NCAA season gymnastics attendance record broke the old mark (also held by the Utes) of 14,950 set in 2015.
