UCLA, Utah advance to NCAA Gymnastics Super Six

ST. LOUIS – Both No. 4 UTAH and No. 6 UCLA will advance to the NCAA Super Six and compete for the NCAA women’s gymnastics title tomorrow night at 6 p.m. PT at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

The Bruins and the Red Rocks earned their right to move on to the Super Six after coming in second (197.500) and third (197.050) respectively in their NCAA Semifinal meet today. Also moving on to tomorrow’s Super Six is Oklahoma who won the session with a 197.725.

After the second semifinal session concluded, UTAH's MyKayla Skinner and UCLA's Kyla Ross' first semifinal scores held on to be crowned NCAA individual event winners.  Skinner earned NCAA co-floor champion honors (9.9625) and UCLA's Kyla Ross was crowned sole beam champion (9.9625) and earned a six-way tie for the bars title (9.950). In the first semifinal, Pac-12 gymnasts finished in first place in every event and in the all-around. UTAH’s MyKayla Skinner came in first on vault (9.900), floor (9.9625), and the all-around (39.6125) while UCLA’s Kyla Ross came in first on bars (9.950) and beam (9.9625). 

The other three teams joining No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 6 UCLA, and No. 4 UTAH in the Super Six include No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Florida and No. 8 Alabama.  

WASHINGTON and OREGON STATE also competed in the first semifinal session, finishing in fourth (196.5625) and sixth (196.3625) place respectively to end their seasons in St. Louis. WASHINGTON was competing at NCAAs for the first time 1998 and their 196.5625 is the highest NCAA Championship score in program history.
