SAN FRANCISCO - The 2017 Pac-12 Conference Track & Field Championships will begin this Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, with the Combined Events hosted at Oregon State University's Whyte Track & Field Center in Corvallis. The Championships will then shift to the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene for the running and field events on Saturday and Sunday, May 13-14.

It marks the first time OREGON STATE has hosted a Pac-12 meet since 1987, while OREGON will host both the Pac-12 and NCAA Championships this spring.

Weekend and daily tickets for the Combined Events are available through OSU Athletics. All session and single session tickets are currently on sale for the second weekend via Oregon Athletics.

A total of 22 athletes will compete in the multis - eight in the men's decathlon and 14 in the women's heptathlon - with events slated to begin at 12 p.m. PT on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. PT on Sunday. The order of the combined events is subject to change.

For the first time in history, the final day of the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships will be broadcast live. Coverage of the event will air on Sunday, May 14 starting at 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT across Pac-12 Network, all regional channels and Pac-12 Now. Paul Sunderland (1984 Olympian), Tom Feuer (Emmy Award-winning Olympics producer), Jordan Kent (four-time track All-American at Oregon) and Jill Savage will cover the action.

MEN'S COMBINED EVENTS

A first-time champion will emerge from the field of eight men’s decathlon competitors at the 2017 Pac-12 Track & Field Combined Events Championship.

The departure of the two athletes who have accounted for the past five Pac-12 decathlon crowns - ARIZONA’s Pau Tonnesen (2014-15) and OREGON’s Dakotah Keys (2011-13) - leaves the door open for a new champion, a group led so far this season by the Ducks duo of Joe Delgado and Mitch Modin.

Sophomores Tyler Brendel of CALIFORNIA and Isaiah Oliver of COLORADO, who is also a defensive back for the Buffs’ football team, are a close third and fourth on the current leaderboard and will provide a competitive quartet for the league crown.

Modin (7,450) and Delgado (7,341) finished second and third, respectively, to Tonnesen (7,942) last spring. Modin also owns a third (2014) and fourth (2015) place finish in the event, while Delgado placed sixth in 2015. Modin captured the heptathlon at the MPSF indoor championships this past February.

Delgado’s Conference-leading 2017 mark of 7,566 at the Mt. SAC Relays in April is the 10th-best in the NCAA this season. The trio of Modin (7,384), Brendel (7,347) and Oliver (7,331) are closely bunched behind Delgado on the 2017 Pac-12 top marks list.

WOMEN'S COMBINED EVENTS

Fourteen competitors will look to caputure the heptathlon title at this weekend’s 2017 Pac-12 Track & Field Combined Events Championship.

Nine athletes will be making a return trip to the league’s heptathlon championship, highlighted by 2015 champion Alissa Brooks-Johnson of WASHINGTON STATE. Notably, two-time champion Amalie Iuel of USC (2014, 2016) will not compete this weekend.

Brooks-Johnson, who did not compete in 2016 but finished runner-up to Iuel in 2014, enters with the league’s best mark of the season - a 5,616 at the Mt. SAC Relays, good for 10th-best in the NCAA. The Pac-12's top five is rounded out by UCLA’s Christina Chenault (5,438), Cougars’ teammate Liz Harper (5,420), OREGON STATE’s Kara Hallock (5,379) and USC’s Lyndsey Lopes (5,368).

Harper is the top returner from last year’s heptathlon, finishing third behind Iuel (6,011) and Arizona’s Alyssa Thompson (5,580) with a point total of 5,564. She is also the reigning MPSF pentathlon champion from this past February.
