Pac-12 'Sunday Night Softball' preview: Florida State at Oregon

May 6, 2017

Who: No. 2 Florida State at No. 5 Oregon

When: Sunday, May 7 at 5 p.m. PT/6 p.m. MT

On the call: Ann Schatz and Tammy Blackburn on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Oregon

Where: Eugene, OR

If the first two games in the series are any indication, the series finale should be a doozy.

In the visitor's dugout: No. 2 Florida State (48-5-1, 24-0 in ACC):

The Seminoles are coming off of a huge, extra innings win over No. 1 Florida in Tallahassee to win their tenth straight game. FSU also finished perfect in conference play, the first time since any ACC has gone undefeated in league play since the 'Noles did it back in 2003, when only four other teams in the conference had softball. They'll provide a tough test for the Ducks.

Players to Watch

Jessica Warren, INF, Junior

Warren has been the heart of the Seminoles offense, leading the team in home runs (20), hits (65), RBIs (63), and runs (56). She got FSU on the board against Florida with a solo home run in the first inning.

Alex Powers, INF, Senior

The senior leader provided one of the biggest hits of her career on Wednesday night against Florida - a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th to give the 'Noles the win over No. 1 rival-Florida. Powers also leads the team in doubles (16) and is second in slugging.

If Oregon can keep these two powerhouses off of the basepaths, they'll give themselves a better chance of winning.

In the home dugout: No. 5 Oregon (43-6, 14-6 Pac-12)

The Ducks are coming off a sweep of rival Oregon State and have won six straight. After the first two games the Ducks have outscored the Seminoles, 14-1. Oregon run-ruled Florida by a score of 11-0 in game 1, marking the first time since 2014 the Ducks run-ruled a top-5 opponent. The Ducks look to go for the series sweep on Sunday.

Players to Watch

Megan Kleist, P, Sophomore

The reigning Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week was nothing short of dominant against the Beavers, pitching 12 innings across two games against OSU and not allowing a run. She also struck out 11 and walked just one in that span, no big deal. She's also got some sweet warmup moves.

Nikki Udria, INF, Senior

Udria is a major part of the Oregon offense, leading the Ducks in RBIs (47), home runs (10), and slugging percentage (.688). She worked a walk in Sunday's game against OSU, and has now reached base in 43 straight games.

Shannon Rhodes, INF, Freshman

Rhodes had a monster series against Oregon State, with five hits in three games. She added six RBIs in the series, including five in the series finale on Sunday, including a three-run home in the bottom of the first to get the ball rolling for the Ducks.
