EUGENE, Ore. – The OREGON men’s and women’s track & field teams completed their ninth consecutive sweep of the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships on Sunday at historic Hayward Field. It marked the 11th straight team title for the Ducks’ men and the ninth in a row for the UO women.

With its ninth all-time sweep of the Conference championship meet, Oregon surpassed UCLA’s total of eight dual men’s & women’s titles. The Ducks’ men also moved past the Bruins with their 18th overall Conference title.

On the men’s side, No. 7 nationally ranked Oregon amassed 175 points, the third-most ever in the Conference meet and most since 1987. No. 8 ranked USC finished second with 115.5 points and No. 20 UCLA placed third with 101 points.

The No. 2 ranked Oregon women recorded the fourth-most points ever in a Pac-12 Championship meet with 189 to post a 54-point victory over No. 3 ranked rival USC.

COLORADO dominated with six middle-distance and distance event titles to record its best-ever finishes and highest point totals in both the men’s (fourth, 73 points) and women’s (third, 78) standings since joining the Pac-12.

Sunday’s crowd of 6,778 saw four Pac-12 Championships meet records fall, highlighted by a new hammer throw mark from women’s athlete of the meet Maggie Ewen of ARIZONA STATE and the world’s fastest 200-meter time this year and an all-time Pac-12 record from OREGON’s Deajah Stevens.

WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE MEET: Maggie Ewen, Arizona State

Ewen scored a meet-high 30 points for the Sun Devils as she became the first female to win the shot put, hammer and discus at the Pac-12 Championships. She joined UCLA’s Seilala Sua – who tripled in the shot put, discus and javelin in 1999 – as the only women to win three throwing events in the same Conference title meet.

MEN’S ATHLETE OF THE MEET: Kyree King, Oregon

King amassed a meet-best 22.5 points by winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes – the first Oregon man to dual in those events at the Pac-12 title meet – and running the second leg of the Ducks’ victorious 4x100 relay. He narrowly edged UCLA freshman Isaiah Holmes (22 points) and UO teammates Damarcus Simpson (20.5) and Marcus Chambers (18.5) for athlete of the meet honors.
 

Below are Sunday’s event champions:

MEN’S DISCUS – Ryan Hunter-Simms, Oregon (58.71m/192’-7”)

Ducks senior Hunter-Simms saved his best for the final throw of the event, edging past runner-up Kyle Long of Arizona State (192’-1”) by six inches. He’s the first Oregon discus winner since 1983.

WOMEN’S HAMMER – Maggie Ewen, Arizona State (70.20m/230’-4”)

The American collegiate record holder and defending Conference champion in the hammer set a new Pac-12 Championships record, becoming the first woman to break 70 meters at the meet with a toss of 70.20  (230’-4”). Ewen’s throw beat the old mark of 68.00m/223’-1” set by former Sun Devil Chelsea Cassulo in 2013.

MEN’S TRIPLE JUMP – Eric Sloan, USC (16.00m/52’-6”)

The second field event of the day determined by an athlete’s final attempt, Trojans’ junior Sloan jumped past classmate Dominic Smallwood to win by more than nine inches.

MEN’S 4x100 METER RELAY – Oregon (39.17)

The quartet of Damarcus Simpson, Kyree King, Julius Shellmire and Marcus Chambers led the Ducks to their first Conference 4x100 victory since 2006.

WOMEN’S 4x100 METER RELAY – Oregon (42.81)

The Ducks’ 4x100 relay – consisting of Alaysha Johnson, Deajah Stevens, Makenzie Dunmore and Ariana Washington - won its second straight Pac-12 title, finishing just a tenth of a second shy of last year’s Championship record (42.71).

MEN’S 1,500-METER RUN – Grant Fisher, Stanford (3:54.67)

Stanford got its first win in the men’s 1,500 since 2008 with sophomore Fisher separating in the final 150 meters to beat runner-up Blake Haney (3:55.55) of Oregon by less than a second.

WOMEN’S 1,500-METER RUN – Dani Jones, Colorado (4:22.09)

Buffs’ sophomore Jones separated from the pack thanks to a fallen runner with 150 meters left and became the first CU runner to win the Pac-12 1,500m title.

MEN’S 110-METER HURDLES – Ashtyn Davis, California (13.50)

Davis set a personal-best and clocked the third-fastest time in school history to become the third-ever Golden Bear to win the Conference’s 110 hurdles title.

WOMEN’S 100-METER HURDLES – Alaysha Johnson, Oregon (12.92)

Johnson defended the Ducks’ title in the 100 hurdles after Sasha Wallace became the first Pac-12 champion in the event from Oregon in 2016. Johnson was the only runner to break 13 seconds, beating out USC’s Anna Cockrell (13.06) and Dior Hall (13.09).

MEN’S 400-METER DASH – Michael Norman, USC (45.15)

Freshman Norman ran down two-time defending Pac-12 champion Marcus Chambers (45.19) of Oregon down the home stretch, winning with a lifetime best of 45.15 seconds.

WOMEN’S 400-METER DASH – Kendall Ellis, USC (50.66)

Junior Ellis set a new Pac-12 Championships meet record of 50.66 to win the 400m, besting the previous mark of 50.76 set by Oregon’s Keshia Baker in 2010.

WOMEN’S TRIPLE JUMP – Chaquinn Cook, Oregon (13.45m/44’-1.5”)

Sophomore Cook set the pace with a PR on her first jump and it held up over Arizona State senior Keyasia Tibbs’ runner-up mark of 13.22m.

MEN’S 100-METER DASH – Kyree King, Oregon (10.09)

Oregon went 1-2 behind wind-aided personal-bests from both King and Damarcus Simpson (10.27). King’s 100m victory was an elusive first for Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship.

WOMEN’S 100-METER DASH – Deajah Stevens, Oregon (11.05)

Stevens led a 1-2-3 finish for Oregon with a time of 10.05, just .02 off the Championship meet record set by former Duck English Gardner in 2011. Teammates Ariana Washington (11.10) and defending champion Hannah Cunliffe (11.11) followed in second and third, respectively. It’s the eighth straight Pac-12 100-meter title for Oregon, which finished Cunliffe-Washington-Stevens in 2016.

MEN’S 800-METER RUN – Nick Harris, Colorado (1:48.77)

Senior Harris pulled in front in the final 20 meters to defeat the favorite from USC, Robert Ford (1:49.41) by less than a second. Harris’ victory is CU’s first in the Pac-12 800m since joining the Conference in 2012.

WOMEN’S 800-METER RUN – Raevyn Rogers, Oregon (2:02.93)

Rogers turned it on over the final 200 meters to pull away for a comfortable third straight Pac-12 title in the event at 2:02.93. It is the sixth straight 800m victory for the Ducks following Laura Roesler’s three-peat from 2012-14.

MEN’S 400-METER HURDLES – Rai Benjamin, UCLA (49.52)

In a photo finish, Benjamin outleaned two-time Pac-12 champion CJ Allen of Washington State (49.54) at the tape. Allen passed Benjamin entering the final hurdle, but Benjamin managed to regain the lead at the finish for UCLA’s first win in the event since 2007.

WOMEN’S 400-METER HURDLES – Sage Watson, Arizona (55.01)

In a final featuring a pair of 2016 Olympians and the NCAA’s top three leaders, Arizona’s Watson cruised to victory in a new 2017 collegiate best 55.01. USC freshman Anna Cockrell (55.54) and senior Amalie Iuel (56.07) finished second and third, respectively.

WOMEN’S HIGH JUMP – Lisanne Hagens, Arizona (1.79m/5’-10.5”)

Hagens successfully defended her 2016 league title as the only competitor to clear 1.79m, edging freshman teammate Karla Teran’s second-place mark of 1.76m.

WOMEN’S POLE VAULT – Elizabeth Quick, Washington (4.17m/13’-8.25”)

Quick won her second straight Pac-12 pole vault crown, edging teammate and 2015 champion Kristina Owsinski by clearing 4.17m on her first attempt.

MEN’S 200-METER DASH – Kyree King, Oregon (20.27)

King won his second event of the afternoon and the Ducks went 1-2 as Marcus Chambers came from behind to grab second at 20.43. King’s sweep of the 100 and 200 was a first for a Duck at the Pac-12 Championship meet.

WOMEN’S 200-METER DASH – Deajah Stevens, Oregon (22.09)

In an all Oregon and USC final, Stevens shattered the Pac-12 Championships meet and all-time record and recorded the fastest time in the world this year with a blazing 22.09. Trojans’ Deanna Hill finished second in 22.41 and defending champion Hannah Cunliffe of Oregon placed third at 22.60.

MEN’S 5,000-METER RUN – Zach Perrin, Colorado (13:58.48)

Colorado took its first Pac-12 title in the 5k as well as the top three spots, led by Perrin’s 20-meter victory over teammates Joe Klecker (14:01.17) and John Dressel (14:01.69).

WOMEN’S 5,000-METER RUN – Dani Jones, Colorado (16:12.76)

Jones followed up her win in the 1,500m by outkicking Washington’s Amy-Eloise Neale down the home stretch. Jones became the fourth female to double in the 1,500 & 5,000 in the same Pac-12 Championships meet.

WOMEN’S DISCUS – Maggie Ewen, Arizona State (59.81m/196’-2”)

Ewen became only the second female to win three throwing events in the same Pac-12 Championships by winning the discus by more than 25 feet. She joined UCLA’s Seilala Sua, who won the shot put, discus and javelin at the 1999 meet.

MEN’S 4x400 METER RELAY – USC (3:07.65)

USC’s squad of Ricky Morgan Jr., Alexander Rohani, Robert Ford and Marquis Morris won the nine-team relay for the Trojans’ first Pac-12 4x400 victory since 2011.

WOMEN’S 4x400 METER RELAY – USC (3:29.52)

Behind the team of Anna Cockrell, Amalie Iuel, Kyra Constantine and Kendall Ellis, USC won its fifth straight Pac-12 4x400 relay with a Championship meet record mark of 3:29.52.

Pac-12 teams and qualifiers will look to advance out of the NCAA West Preliminaries – held at the University of Texas’ Myers Stadium from May 25-27 – to return to Hayward Field in three weeks for the 2017 NCAA Championships on June 7-10.
