Roundup: UCLA softball 1 win away from Women's College World Series

May 26, 2017
UCLA Athletics

UCLA

Great game in Los Angeles Thursday night, as UCLA softball outlasted Ole Miss 8-7 in 11 innings. The Bruins were down to their last out in the 10th before coming back. The Bruins can punch their ticket to the Women’s College World Series with a win Friday or Saturday (hopefully Friday for their sake).

Oregon

Former Oregon football coach Chip Kelly will be a studio analyst for ESPN next season, so that should be interesting.

Washington

Scott Hanson of The Seattle Times features the top-ranked Washington women’s rowing team in this article. The Huskies are looking for their first national title since 2001. The NCAA championships begin Friday in New Jersey.

Colorado

Colorado distance runners Erin Clark and Makena Morley qualified for the NCAAs in the 10,000 meters, with Clark finishing in sixth and Morley finishing in 12th at the NCAA West Regional in Austin. (BuffZone.com).

California

The Associated Press checks in on Cal football coach Justin Wilcox and how he is finally able to slow down for a bit after a hitting the ground running on the job.

Oregon State

Danny Moran takes us behind the scenes with the Oregon State pitching staff. With a staff ERA of 1.87 entering the final weekend of the season (and that only improved after a 9-0 win over Abilene Christian on Thursday), I’d say it’s a pretty strong unit. If the Beavers aren’t the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, there is something very wrong with the NCAA selection process for college baseball.

Stanford

Stanford baseball demolished Washington State 13-2 Thursday night in Pullman, and check out the highlights here. The Cardinal has now won 19 of its last 21 games; national seed on the horizon perhaps?

Utah

Check out this UtahUtes.com video feature on the Utah softball seniors. Utes and Dawgs this weekend for the right to go to the Women’s College World Series.

USC

Is USC men’s basketball a top-10 team with so many people returning to the squad? That’s the question posed by Zach Helfand. Head coach Andy Enfield announced earlier in the week that Shaqquan Aaron was returning to the team; Bennie Boatwright, Chimezie Metu and Elijah Stewart also decided to come back to school earlier in the spring.

Arizona

USA TODAY Sports ranks Arizona men’s basketball No. 1 in its late May preseason top 25. Also making the list from the Pac-12 are No. 8 USC and No. 18 UCLA.

Arizona State

Arizona State football coach Todd Graham believes championships are on the way for the Sun Devils, writes Dan Bickley of The Arizona Republic. Graham also says he’d love to win a Super Bowl at some point in the future too.

Washington State

A tad outdated (a few days old), but Jacob Thorpe writes about the ESPN E:60 profile of Ryan Leaf. Still have it on my DVR.
