Pac-12 shines in the 2017 MLB Draft

SAN FRANCISCO - 46 Pac-12 Baseball players were drafted in the 2017 MLB Draft with all 11 schools having at least one student-athlete drafted. The draft started on Monday, June 12th with the first 75 picks announced. The draft continued through Wednesday, June 14th.

Of the 46 players, six came from Arizona, one from Arizona State, two from California, three from Oregon, five from Oregon State, ten from Stanford, six from UCLA, two from USC, four from Utah, four from Washington, and three from Washington State.

In the first round, four Pac-12 baseball players were drafted among the top 75 draft picks. Oregon’s David Peterson was the first Pac-12 player to be drafted as the 20th overall pick to the New York Mets. Oregon State’s Drew Rasmussen was next as the 31st pick to the Tampa Bay Rays. UCLA’s Griffin Canning was next as the 47th pick to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Arizona’s JJ Matijevic was the final pick of the day at 75th to the Houston Astros.

In the third round, Oregon State’s KJ Harrison was drafted to the Milwaukee Brewers as the 84th pick. Washington’s Joey Morgan was the 95th pick to the Detroit Tigers. Shortly after, Stanford’s Quinn Brodey was the 97th pick to the New York Mets. 

In the fourth round, Stanford’s Colton Hock was 119th to the Miami Marlins. Oregon State’s Jake Thompson was the 131st pick to the Boston Red Sox. 

In the fifth round, Stanford’s Matt Winaker was the 157th pick to the New York Mets. Utah’s Riley Ottensen was the 160th pick to the Los Angeles Dodgers. 

In the sixth round, Washington’s Noah Bremer was the 194th pick to the Texas Rangers. 

In the seventh round, Arizona’s Jared Oliva was the 208th pick to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In the eighth round, Oregon’s Tim Susnara was the 232 pick to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Utah’s Jayson Rose was the 234th pick the the Milwaukee Brewers. 

In the ninth round, Utah’s Dallas Carroll was 264th to the Milwaukee Brewers. Stanford’s Brett Hanewich was the 265th pick to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. UCLA’s Sean Bouchard was the 266th pick to the Colorado Rockies. Arizona’s JC Cloney was the 270th pick to the Kansas City Royals.

In the tenth round, Washington’s Jack Meggs was the 291st pick to the Oakland A’s. California’s Denis Karas was the 299th pick to the Miami Marlins.

After the first two days of the draft, 21 Pac-12 baseball players were drafted.

In the twelfth round, Stanford’s Andrew Summerville was the 364th pick to the St. Louis Cardinal. Utah’s Andre Jackson was the 370th pick to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In the fourteenth round, Stanford’s Keith Heisenberg was the 410th pick to the Atlanta Braves. Arizona’s Cameron Ming was the 428th pick to the Baltimore Orioles.

In the seventeenth round, Oregon’s Brac Warren was the 515th pick to the San Francisco Giants. USC’s Frankie Rios was the 521st pick to the Boston Red Sox.

In the eighteenth round, Washington State's Damon Jones was selected the 533rd pick to the Philadelphia Phillies.

In the twentieth round, UCLA’s Scott Burke was the 608th pick to the Baltimore Orioles.

In the twenty-third round, Washington State's Shane Matheny was selected 696th to the San Francisco Giants.

In the twenty-fourth round, UCLA’s Nick Valaika was the 718th pick to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Arizona’s Louis Boyd was the 723rd pick to the Seattle Mariners. California’s Preston Grand Pre was the 730th pick to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In the twenty-eighth round, UCLA’s Brett Stephens was the 836th pick to the Colorado Rockies. 

In the twenty-ninth round, Stanford’s Tristan Beck was the 872nd pick to the New York Yankees. Beck’s teammate Alex Dunlap was the 883rd pick to the Washington Nationals.

In the thirty-second round, UCLA’s Moises Ceja was the 956th pick to the Colorado Rockies. Washington’s Greg Minier was the 957th pick to the Chicago White Sox. 

In the thirty-third round, Stanford’s Chris Castellanos was the 993rd pick to the Seattle Mariners. USC’s Adalberto Carrillo was the 1003th pick to the Washington Nationals.

In the thirty-fourth round, Stanford’s Jackson Klein was the 1020th pick to the Kansas City Royals.

In the thirty-fifth round, Washington State’s Colby Nealy was the 1060th pick to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Arizona State’s Connor Higgins was the 1064th pick to the Texas Rangers.

In the thirty-sixth round, Arizona’s Rio Gomez was the 1091st pick to the Boston Red Sox. 

In the thirty-ninth round, Oregon State’s Mike Gretler was the 1168th pick to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In the fortieth round, Stanford’s Jacob Hoffman was the 1191st draft pick to the Oakland A’s. Oregon State's Max Engelbrekt was the 1213rd pick to the Washington Nationals.
