Arizona State

Former Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler will start the Cleveland Browns’ first preseason game, the team announced (Sports Illustrated on the link). You can catch Osweiler in action Thursday when the Browns play the New Orleans Saints.

California

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers tells Sports Illustrated’s Peter King that he wants to play another seven to 10 years (Rodgers is 33).

USC

Please do take the time to check out this Lee Jenkins feature story on USC quarterback Sam Darnold. Very good read; Jenkins does it again.

UCLA

UCLA men’s basketball and Notre Dame agreed to a home-and-home series for 2018 (at UCLA) and 2019 (at Notre Dame). Matt Norlander of CBS Sports has some other news and notes in the link regarding the home-and-home.

Oregon

Oregon golfer Norman Xiong won the Western Amateur on the 22nd hole Saturday. Big ups to Xiong, who joins Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods as winners of the Western Amateur.

Colorado

Freshman receiver Jaylon Jackson was injured in Colorado’s open scrimmage on Saturday, reports Brian Howell. Jackson tore his ACL in high school and missed his entire senior campaign as a result, so hopefully this isn’t as serious.

Washington

Back up the Brinks truck, y’all, because Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas said he deserves a max contract (Boston Herald). From a pure production standpoint, it’s hard to argue with him.

Oregon State

Czech out Oregon State’s “11 strong” alternate Nike uniform, thanks to Gina Mizell. The Beavs will be wearing these threads for their Sept. 9 game against Minnesota, and they look pretty dope.

Stanford

Stanford football is establishing a “new identity,” writes Rusty Simmons. Gone are running back Christian McCaffrey and defensive lineman Solomon Thomas.

Utah

Utah defensive tackle Lowell Lotulelei hopes to “cement his own legacy” in his senior year, writes Lynn Worthy of the Salt Lake Tribune. Lowell is the younger brother of Star, a former Ute standout and current defensive lineman for the Carolina Panthers.

Washington State

Mike Leach talks about the time he signed an elderly woman’s bra in this video provided to us by The Seattle Times’ Stefanie Loh. Of course he did.

Arizona

Greg Hansen of the Arizona Daily Star whips up this piece on new Arizona special teams and defensive ends/outside linebackers coach Brian Knorr.
