Stanford

Cardinal alumna Kori Carter won an IAAF world title in London on Thursday, claiming the 400-meter hurdles title with a time of 53.07 seconds. It's the fastest time ever recorded out of lane nine.

Utah

Gordon Monson of The Salt Lake Tribune opines that Utah doesn’t need to air it out to win the Pac-12 title. Get this – each of the six teams that have won the conference since the Utes and Buffs joined ran the ball more than 50 percent of the time (though I don’t know why Arizona State is listed as the 2013 champs in this article; I was there and specifically remember the Sun Devils not winning).

Oregon

From Wednesday – former Duck Phyllis Francis won the 400 meters at the IAAF World Championships in London. I was probably too busy linking to an article that wasn’t as newsworthy yesterday. *Looks back at the Thursday roundup* – yeah, certainly not nearly as newsworthy as this.

Arizona State

Sweet – Jeff Metcalfe reports that new Arizona State volleyball coach Sanja Tomasevic is expected to have her first child Nov. 6. She was hoping to have the baby after the season, but the due date is about three weeks before the end of the regular season. Congrats!

Colorado

The Associated Press whips up this Colorado football 2017 season preview, noting that teams will certainly be taking the Buffs seriously this year after they won the Pac-12 South (USA TODAY on the link). One note, AP – “…and outside linebacker Derek McCartney, grandson of Buffs coaching great Mike McCartney.” Not to point out a mistake, because I’ve made plenty, but it’s Bill McCartney, not Mike.

Arizona

And here’s an Arizona football season preview, courtesy of the AP as well. What do you know, FOX SPORTS posted something with text in it!

Oregon State

Let’s keep the preview train rolling, y’all, as Anne M. Peterson of the AP gives us an Oregon State football outlook for 2017. The Beavs ended the 2016 campaign on a two-game winning streak and hope that boils over to this year.

USC

Gary Parrish of CBS Sports writes that Andy Enfield has built USC men’s basketball into a powerhouse. The Trojans figure to be squarely in the mix for the Pac-12 title next season.

UCLA

Here’s video of UCLA opening up the Wasserman Football Center. Also, read Alabama football coach Nick Saban’s response to Josh Rosen’s comments on school and football, courtesy of CBS Sports.

California

Great read on Cal nose guard Tony Mekari realizing the American dream. He's the American-born son of a family that boasts immigrants from Lebanon, Armenia and Iran, including his parents that have worked their way to owning their own business.

Washington

Todd Milles of The News Tribune features Washington outside linebacker Benning Potoa’e, who, at 278 pounds, will also be pretty big for his position (he could be the biggest OLB in the nation, Milles muses).
