California

Cal grad Kate Scott will become the first woman to do play-by-play for a football game on Pac-12 Networks when Arizona faces Northern Arizona Sept. 2 (Awful Announcing on the link; don’t worry, this website isn’t calling her an “awful announcer”). As a play-by-play man myself, I always enjoy a quality call, and Kate is the cream of the crop. Kudos, Kate.

Washington

Washington women’s volleyball was picked to win the Pac-12, it was announced Wednesday. Defending national champion Stanford is slotted second.

Stanford

Former Stanford women’s water polo star and two-time Olympic gold medalist Maggie Steffens is a finalist for the Women’s Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year award, it was announced Wednesday. I’ve watched a lot of Stanford sports, and I’d say she is one of the five most dominant Stanford athletes of the last 10 years (other potential candidates- Nneka Ogwumike, Andrew Luck, Candice Wiggins, Christen Press, Brook Lopez, Kelley O’Hara, Toby Gerhart, Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Morris. Obviously that’s more than five. Please “at” me your suggestions; not an exhaustive list).

UCLA

Now of Yahoo Sports fame, Pete Thamel wonders if UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen will live up to his potential this year. I mean, I don’t know what you wanted from him last year when he was out half the season and the Bruins didn’t have a solid running game; he’s still a helluva QB. In other news, please vote for me for President of the Josh Rosen Fan Club.

Arizona State

Arizona

So what is Khalil Tate’s status in the Arizona starting quarterback battle? Glad you asked, because Michael Lev devoted an article to it (he’s probably the solid No. 2 option right now, “with a still-untapped upside,” Lev adds).

USC

USC is looking for someone to fill Adoree’ Jackson’s shoes in the return game, notes Joey Kaufman of the Los Angeles Daily News. Jack Jones, Ajene Harris and Velus Jones appear to be potential answers for now.

Utah

With Armand Shyne out with an undisclosed injury for an indefinite period of time, Zack Moss is Utah’s go-to running back, writes Christopher Kamrani of The Salt Lake Tribune.

Washington State

Brent Schrotenboer of USA TODAY Sports considers Washington State football coach Mike Leach “the most interesting football coach.” Can’t argue with that. Solid Q&A here.

Colorado

Brian Howell features Colorado wide receiver Jay MacIntyre, son of head ball coach Mike MacIntyre. He’s not on the roster because of nepotism; dude can play (30 catches for 390 yards and a TD last year). Also, WCAL all day, even if he did go to Valley Christian (go Bells).

Oregon

Tyson Alger gives us an Oregon football practice report from Tuesday, saying the Ducks have hit the “dog days of camp.”

Oregon State

And here’s the latest Oregon State football practice report from Wednesday, thanks to Sean Meagher of The Oregonian/OregonLive.
