Blind USC long-snapper Jake Olson helps Trojans score PAT vs. Western Michigan
With 3:13 left on the clock at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon, USC long-snapper Jake Olson, decked out in his red and gold No. 61 football jersey, trotted out to the field with his teammates. Make no mistake, this wasn't your vanilla extra point in the waning moments of a 49-31 Trojans victory.
After overcoming cancer and going blind at age 12, Olson finally got to step between the lines for some real on-field action in his redshirt sophomore season. Olson has been an inspiration to his teammates since joining the Trojans in the fall of 2015, taking part in practices for the past two-plus seasons. Pac-12 Networks' Ashley Adamson sat down with Olson to tell his story as he settled into campus during his freshman year.
On Saturday, Olson was mobbed by his fellow Trojans and received a raucous cheer from the crowd after Chase McGrath's kick went through the uprights. His accomplishment also made a major impression in the realm of social media and beyond.
