Pac-12 women's soccer claims top two spots in the nation
• The Pac-12 has six teams ranked in the United Soccer Coaches top-25 for the third-consecutive week after posting a 16-3-2 record last week, including three wins against ranked opponents.
• Nine matches will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks in the final week of non-conference play. The Bruins kick off the week against their biggest test of the season facing No. 8 Virginia on Thursday and No. 21 Utah takes on No. 11 Duke on Monday.
• Undefeated UCLA is ranked No. 1 for the second week in a row and is only one of four teams in the country with a perfect 6-0-0 record. STANFORD makes the jump to the No. 2 spot after defeating then-ranked No. 10 Georgetown 4-0 in its home opener. This is the first time since Nov. 30, 2012 that Pac-12 teams have held the No.1 and No. 2 spots in the national rankings.
• USC ranks No. 12, UTAH is No. 21, and CALIFORNIA and COLORADO top out the poll with the No. 24 and No. 25 spots, respectively.
• Ranked wins that highlight last week’s successes features WASHINGTON STATE’S blanking No. 14 Nebraska, 1-0, handing the Huskers their first loss of the season. Washington knocked off No. 2 Florida, 1-0, for the programs third-ever win over a number 2 team.
• No. 2 Stanford ranks second nationally in scoring offense (4.40), points per game (12.20), and third in total goals (22). UCLA is in the top five in five national categories, including third in total points (64). Among being ranked in three categories the Utes are second in assists per game (4.40) and Colorado is in a five-way tie for first with a 1.0-shutout percentage.
• Oregon’s junior forward Kyra Fawcett scored her first Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honor, recording the game winning goal in the Ducks 1-0 win over Oklahoma and again in the 2-1 win over Cal Poly. Maddy Harrom of WSU collected Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week and Bella Geist of OSU, earned Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week nods.
• Washington’s Taylor Sekyra and Oregon State’s Paula Leblic were recognized for extraordinary individual efforts last week, making Top Drawer Soccer’s Best IX team. Stanford’s Kyra Carusa earned honorable mention tallying two goals in the team’s 7-0 victory against Navy.
