Solid move by CU athletics – Colorado is offering free tickets to the Northern Colorado game for fans who donate at least $10 to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma relief.

USC

The Los Angeles Times is running a four-part series on the 2006 Rose Bowl game between USC and Texas since the two teams are squaring off this weekend, and this installment goes into Vince Young’s heroics against the Trojans. This is a really good, if painful for Trojan fans, read.

UCLA

Thuc Nhi Nguyen points out that UCLA is short on linebackers because of controversial targeting calls (or non-calls) in the Hawai’i game. Kenny Young is going through concussion protocol this week after getting rocked by a blind-side block, while Josh Woods is suspended for the first half of the Memphis game for getting called for targeting in the fourth quarter against the Rainbow Warriors.

Utah

Lynn Worthy reports that Utah safety Chase Hansen’s availability to play Saturday against San Jose State is uncertain. Hansen missed a lot of the preseason with an undisclosed injury and was not on the field for the final possession of the BYU game.

Oregon State

Danny Moran has an Oregon State football injury report going into Saturday’s game at Washington State, and it’s not good – starting cornerbacks Xavier Crawford and Dwayne Williams are both out.

Arizona State offensive lineman Corey Stephens was named a finalist for the NFF Chapter Scholar-Athlete Awards, which honor one player from each of the five regions “as the best and the brightest for their accomplishments as athletes, scholars and citizens at the high school level,” per the release (TheSunDevils.com).
