Oregon State

Oregon State quarterback Jake Luton has been released from the hospital after being removed from the field on a stretcher during the Beavers’ 52-23 loss at Washington State. He appeared to be knocked out after taking a hit to the head in the fourth quarter.

USC

Pete Thamel writes about the “finish for the ages” in USC’s double-OT win over Texas. There were certainly some fireworks late in that one, and while Sam Darnold was a monster late in the game, it was freshman walk-on kicker Chase McGrath who provided the game-winner (Los Angeles Times), a 43-yard field goal in the second overtime period.

California

Huge win for the Golden Bears Saturday night, taking down Ole Miss 27-16 (and making the Pac-12 2-0 against the SEC this year, wink wink), and Rusty Simmons writes that the defense is leading Cal’s turnaround. Ole Miss got out to a 16-7 lead early in the second quarter but did not score over the final 43 minutes of the game. Also, read this piece from Sports Illustrated’s Peter King on Marshawn Lynch’s dancing on the sidelines during the Oakland Raiders’ 45-20 curb-stomping of the New York Jets.

Washington

In Washington’s 48-16 win over Fresno State, Dante Pettis tied two NCAA punt return touchdown records, as his eighth career punt return for a touchdown ties the NCAA record with Texas Tech’s Wes Welker and Oklahoma’s Antonio Perkins. He also joined two others as the only players to return punts for TDs in three straight games. Watch highlights of his day against the Bulldogs in the link above.

Oregon

Andrew Greif writes that Oregon’s defense made a statement in the blowout win over Wyoming Saturday. Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen, a guy with a ton of NFL hype, couldn’t do anything (64 yards passing) against the Ducks. The reward for a 3-0 non-conference record? Oregon is now ranked 24th in the AP Top 25 (The Oregonian/OregonLive).

Utah

Lynn Worthy writes that Utah’s offense showed it can move the ball through the air in the blowout win over San Jose State, as quarterback Tyler Huntley was 30-for-41 passing for 341 yards and four touchdowns.

Colorado

Alright, now that the Buffs have their non-conference schedule taken care of (3-0, as expected), Colorado wants revenge against Washington Saturday night at Folsom Field (BuffZone.com). You don’t need to remind the folks in Boulder about Washington’s 41-10 win over the Buffs in last year’s Pac-12 Football Championship Game.

Stanford

San Diego State “turned out the lights” on Stanford Saturday night in a 20-17 win over the Cardinal, notes Ivan Carter (Bay Area News Group). Literally – there was a 15-minute delay due to lights going out at San Diego Stadium before the Cardinal defense gave up San Diego State’s go-ahead touchdown pass in the final minute.

UCLA

Chris Low of ESPN has this writeup on Josh Rosen and UCLA being “outdueled” by quarterback Riley Ferguson and Memphis in a wild 48-45 decision for the Tigers.

Washington State

Here are some news and notes from Washington State’s 52-23 win over Oregon State Saturday afternoon, courtesy of Theo Lawson of The Spokesman-Review. My favorite nugget? Washington State game captain Jamal Morrow is 19-6 on the coin toss.

Arizona

Michael Lev looks at receiver Shun Brown’s performance in Arizona’s 63-16 win over UTEP; Brown caught a 36-yard TD pass and also returned a punt 63 yards to the house in the laugher that got the Wildcats to 2-1. Things get considerably tougher with Utah coming to Tucson next weekend.

Arizona State

Here are Doug Haller’s takeaways from Arizona State’s loss to Texas Tech, sending the Sun Devils to 1-2.
