SAN FRANCISCO – In her 10^th year as an NCAA Division I head coach, Lindsay Gottlieb has taught and mentored dozens of players, giving them not only the X’s and O’s education necessary to be successful on the court but advice to navigate life off it.

Now, the Cal women’s basketball head coach has one more member of Team Gottlieb – her 5-month-old son Jordan, who has already become visible with the Cal women’s basketball team. Jordan can be seen in coaches’ meetings or practices, rocking some fresh Cal baby gear.

“It’s pretty unbelieveable now to have a 5-month-old son,” Gottlieb said at 2017 Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Media Day. “For me, the most special thing is the young women I coach, who are also my family, are integrated with my other family of Patrick and Jordan… For me, the challenge – and I told them this before I went on maternity leave, I’m going to be the same type of coach, but there may be a little guy bouncing on a chair next to us.”

While it is Gottlieb’s first child, being a parent isn’t that foreign of a feeling to her due to her coaching experience. Jordan’s birth might have changed Gottlieb’s perspective on coaching a little bit, but it hasn’t changed how she coaches.

“I really have felt over my career that I’ve had 12 to 14 kids each year,” Gottlieb said. “My perspective is just right now different in that I’m trying to balance everything. Having a son that I’m nursing, it’s a lot of time. It’s a matter of managing that. And sure, seeing him smile or make some crazy sound makes a missed layup maybe not seem as significant.”

Kai Felton, Gottlieb’s assistant, also gave birth to a baby boy in the offseason (his name is Weston), giving the Cal women’s basketball team two new additions.

“They’re being great mothers and great coaches, too, spending time with their kids, with us,” senior guard/forward Mikayla Cowling told the Associated Press. “It’s a good dynamic going on. It’s crazy having all of them in the office all the time, but it’s a joy to have.”
