Pac-12 Crowns Women’s Soccer Champion as Regular Season Comes to A Close

• No. 1 STANFORD earns a three-peat after winning the 2017 Pac-12 Women’s Soccer crown. The Cardinal won its third-straight Conference title and 12th in program history last week with one game still remaining in the regular season. Stanford defeated No. 6 UCLA and No. 5 USC to clinch the title early with an unattainable five-point lead in the standings.

• Stanford clinched the league title after beating the second- and third-place teams in the Pac-12 standings. It separated itself from the pack with a perfect 10-0-0 record, so far, and 30 points. The Cardinal extended its winning streak to 15 games (17-1-0 overall) and registers its 17th-straight Pac-12 win dating back to Oct 6, 2016. In his 15th season as head coach, Paul Ratcliffe records his seventh championship with the victory at USC.

• In Pac-12 women’s soccer history, Stanford holds the most league titles out of any program with 12, followed by UCLA (11) who last won in 2014. Stanford’s longest title streak reaches four years from 2009-2012. With a blemish-free league record and No. 1 rank in the United Soccer Coaches poll for the past five-straight weeks, Stanford looks to earn its fourth-consecutive No. 1 seed for the NCAA Tournament.

• Joining the Cardinal in the national poll, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 USC and No. 22 California are ranked. Each school has one more match this week before the NCAA selection announcement on Nov. 6. Last season the Pac-12 had three teams earn a top-four seeding (No.1 Stanford, No. 2 USC, No. 4 UCLA) heading into the national tournament.

• This week’s action kicks off with Pac-12 Network’s Thursday Goals as ARIZONA hosts ARIZONA STATE. Top-25 matchups include USC at UCLA on Pac-12 Networks, and California at Stanford on Pac-12 Bay Area.

• The Pacific Northwest matchup between WASHINGTON and WASHINGTON STATE could figure into the postseason picture. The Cougars are seventh in the league (9-7-2, 4-6-0) and sit just above the Huskies in eighth place (9-8-2, 2-6-2). Both are looking to improve their postseason resumes.

• The Pac-12 has three teams ranked in the top 15 in national win-loss-tie percentage, led by Stanford (0.944) in second, then USC (0.853) tied eighth and UCLA (0.833) coming in at eleventh Nine Pac-12 teams appear in the top 100 of the NCAA RPI, including five teams in the top 25, led by Stanford with a No. 1 RPI.

• Stanford is on a 15-game win streak and has 14 shutouts, which leads the Conference and is tied for second nationally. Stanford leads the nation in scoring offense (3.83), total assists (65), total points (203), shots per game (24.28) and shots on goal per game (11.17)

• Stanford claimed two Pac-12 weekly awards after clinching the Conference title last week. Freshman Catarina Macario earned back-to-back Offensive Player of the Week honors this week after recording a goal and an assist in win against USC. Macario also received national attention for her performance and earned a spot on TopDrawerSoccer’s Best IX weekly team. Fellow freshman teammate Kiki Pickett picked up her first Defensive Player of the Week nod while starting both games at right back and helping Stanford concede just one goal on the road against two top-10 teams in the nation.

• COLORADO’S Jalen Tompkins records her second-straight Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week honor and fourth of her career after picking up two shutouts last week. Tompkins and the Buffs shut out Oregon State, 1-0, and Oregon, 2-0, and look to pad their record (10-5-4, 4-4-2) in hopes to return to the postseason for the second year in a row.

• Three Pac-12 student-athletes appear on the 2017 Senior CLASS Award candidate list: Andi Sullivan, Stanford; Zoey Goralski, UCLA; and Alex Anthony, USC. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, honors the attributes of NCAA Division I senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season to determine an official ballot and the winner will be announced during the College Cup in December.

• The Pac-12 has the most representatives on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List with seven student-athletes, the most from the Conference since seven in 2010. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer, presented annually to one male and one female athlete. The Conference is represented by Jemma Purfield, Arizona State; Taylor Kornieck, COLORADO; Andi Sullivan and Tierna Davidson, Stanford; Jessie Fleming, UCLA; Ally Prisock, USC; and Hailey Skolmoski, Utah

• On TopDrawerSoccer 2017 Preseason Women’s DI Best XI teams, the Pac-12 tied for the most selections with seven student-athletes and had the most of any league with five on the Freshmen Best XI. UCLA’s First Team selection: Jessie Fleming, UCLA and Andi Sullivan, Stanford. Second Team: Jemma Purfield, ASU; Tierna Davidson, Stanford; Taylor Kornieck, Colorado. Third Team: Emily Boyd, California; Ally Prisock, USC. Freshmen: Emily Smith, California; Kennedy Faulnor, UCLA; Savannah DeMelo, USC; Ashley Sanchez, UCLA; Catarina Macario, Stanford.
