Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week (12/4/17) - Deandre Ayton, Fr., F, ARIZONA

National Player and Freshman of the Year candidate Deandre Ayton of ARIZONA earns his first career Pac-12 Player of the Week award as voted on by media who cover the league. Ayton is on the watch lists for the James Naismith, John Wooden and Oscar Robertson National Player of the Year awards, as well as the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year honor.

Ayton averaged 20.5 points on 62 percent shooting (18-29), 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in a pair of Wildcat victories last week.

After a 13-point, nine-rebound effort in a 91-56 rout of Long Beach State on Wednesday, the 7-1 freshman forward from Nassau, Bahamas showed off his all-around offensive repertoire in a Saturday duel with UNLV's 7-0 freshman forward Brandon McCoy. Ayton made his final five shots over the last 2:03 of regulation and overtime en route to a 28-point, 10-rebound double-double that helped the Wildcats to a 91-88 road victory against the Runnin' Rebels. He finished 12-of-23 from the field, including 1-of-3 behind the arc, en route to the season-high 28 points and added three blocks in 39 minutes of action.

Ayton is one of two Pac-12 players currently averaging a double-double (UCLA's Thomas Welsh) with 20.4 points and a league-leading 11.4 rebounds per game. He paces the Conference and is tied for second nationally among freshmen with six double-doubles.
