16 Pac-12 Volleyball Players earn All-Region Nods

SAN FRANCISCO - 16 Pac-12 volleyball players earned AVCA All-Pacific North and Pacific South honors, the American American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today. Regional Players of the Year were also announced with STANFORD’s Kathryn Plummer garnering the Pacific North accolade and UTAH’s Adora Anae receiving the Pacific South nod. OREGON STATE’s Kylee McLaughlin and COLORADO’s Brynna Deluzio were selected the Pacific North and Pacific South Freshmen of the Year, respectively.

Plummer was voted the Pac-12 Player of the Year, leading the Cardinal to a 17th league crown and a No. 3 seeding in the NCAA Tournament. The defending NCAA Champion Cardinal are hosting the regional rounds this weekend as it vies for a spot in the national semifinal. Plummer led the Conference in kills per set (4.65) and points per set (5.40). She also has the fourth-best aces average in the league at 0.36.

Anae is a three-time Pac-12 honoree leading the Utes to a No. 11 NCAA Tournament seeding, the program’s highest ever. Utah plays in the regional semifinal this week at Stanford. She led the Utes to its best showing in the Pac-12, finishing in fourth place. She is second in the Conference with a 4.35 kills per set average and fourth in points per set (4.77).

McLaughlin (10.69) and Deluzio (11.10) are two of the Pac-12’s top setters, ranking fourth and third, respectively, in assists per set. Both led their teams back to the NCAA Tournament, McLaughlin for the first time since 2014 and Deluzio leading the Buffs to the regional semifinal this week for the first time in 20 years.

Nine of the 14 players on the All-Pacific North team are from the Pac-12, including five from Stanford. The Cardinal’s redshirt senior Merete Lutz earns a spot on the team for the fourth time and sophomore teammate Plummer is on the team for the second year in a row.

Joining them on the Pacific North team are Stanford middle blocker Audrianna Fitzmorris, setter Jenna Gray and libero Morgan Hentz, all of which are sophomores; WASHINGTON seniors Carly DeHoog, Tia Scambray and Courtney Schwan. Schwan is on the team for the second time. OREGON STATE senior Mary-Kate Marshall is also on the list, earning a third-straight honor.

OREGON’s Taylor Agost and Ronika Stone, Stanford’s Tami Alade, and UW’s Bailey Tanner were honorable mention.

The Pacific South team includes seven players from the Pac-12. Teammate Tawnee Luafalemana joins Anae on the team. From USC, senior Brittany Abercrombie and sophomore Khalia Lanier earn a spot, with Lanier receiving her second-straight nod. UCLA also had a pair of selections with sophomore Madeleine Gates and senior Sarah Sponcil, Sponcil earned the recognition for the third time. Colorado junior Alexa Smith was also named to the team.

On the Pacific South honorable mention team are UCLA’s Reily Buechler and Zana Muno, the Buffs’ Brynna Deluzio, and Utah’s Berkeley Oblad.
