Dec 12, 2017

COMPLETE RELEASE

#PAC12HOOPS STARTING FIVE

2, 2, 7 - The Pac-12 picked up a trio of signature wins last week with both WASHINGTON and ARIZONA STATE upsetting #2 Kansas and ARIZONA knocking off #7 Texas A&M.
>> The Pac-12 last scored three top-10 victories in non-conference play in 2013.
>> According to STATS, Inc.’s database which dates to 1996-97, the Pac-12’s three top-10 non-league victories in the same week equaled the most for any conference (Pac-12 & ACC in 2017-18, Big East in 2002-03, Big Ten in 2000-01, ACC in 1997-98).

2 - For just the second time since both honors started being awarded in 2013-14, the Pac-12 swept this week’s USBWA national awards (1/3/17: Dillon Brooks, Markelle Fultz).
USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week: Shannon Evans II, Arizona State
USBWA Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Week: Deandre Ayton, Arizona

#5 - Associated Press national ranking for ARIZONA STATE, which holds its highest ranking since checking in at No. 5 on March 2, 1981. ARIZONA returned to the AP Top 25 this week at No. 23.
>> It marks the first time ASU and Arizona are the Conference’s lone representatives in the AP poll.

8 - Double-doubles recorded by ARIZONA’s Deandre Ayton in his first 10 games as a collegian, tied for third-most in NCAA Division I. He’s currently ahead of the pace set by Conference freshman-record holder Kevin Love, who registered five double-doubles in his first 10 games at UCLA before finishing with 23 in 2007-08.
>> The NCAA record for double-doubles by a freshman is Kansas State’s Michael Beasley with 28 in 2007-08.

9-0 - Behind the high-scoring backcourt of Tra Holder (21.2 ppg) and Shannon Evans II (19.0 ppg), ARIZONA STATE is one of seven unbeaten teams remaining in NCAA Division I and has matched its best unbeaten start (1974-75) in program history.
