League record-tying effort lands Pac-12 weekly award for USC's McLaughlin

Dec 18, 2017

Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week (12/18/17) - Jordan McLaughlin, Sr., G, USC

National Player of the Year candidate Jordan McLaughlin of USC collects his third career Pac-12 Player of the Week award as voted on by media who cover the league. McLaughlin, who is on this season's watch lists for the James Naismith and John Wooden National Player of the Year awards as well as the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year honor, also earned the league's weekly award twice (12/26, 3/6) during the Trojans' record-setting 2016-17 season.

In Sunday's 98-87 victory over UC Santa Barbara, McLaughlin broke his own USC program record and tied the all-time Conference mark with 19 assists along with scoring 10 points. The 19 assists matched the league mark of ARIZONA's Russell Brown set in 1979, were the most in an NCAA Division I game so far this season, and equaled the most by any Division I player in the past eight seasons according to College Basketball Reference (Missouri's Phil Pressey in 2012).

For the week, McLaughlin narrowly missed averaging a double-double in the Trojans' two victories, finishing with averages of 9.5 points and 14.5 assists with a 7.3 assist-to-turnover ratio (29a/4to). The Etiwanda, Calif., native posted nine points and 10 assists as USC snapped a three-game skid with an 82-59 rout of Santa Clara on Thursday.

McLaughlin leads the Pac-12 and ranks fourth nationally with 8.1 assists per game. His 530 career assists are the sixth-most among active Division I players, and 92 shy of breaking into the Pac-12's all-time top 10.
