Arizona

Michael Lev details the “many reasons” why Arizona is a good gig for the school’s next football coach. Having a star quarterback like Khalil Tate would be chief among those reasons.

Washington State

Washington State has hired Tracy Claeys as its new defensive coordinator, Theo Lawson reports. Claeys replaces Alex Grinch, who has moved on to THE Ohio State University.

USC

USC has named Brent Crouch its new women’s volleyball head coach, the school announced Monday. Crouch, who replaces Mick Haley, was the 2016 WCC Coach of the Year at Portland in 2016.

Washington

Looking for a potential Pac-12 tie to last night’s thrilling national championship game? Ryan S. Clark of The News Tribune weighs the odds of Georgia backup quarterback Jacob Eason transferring to Washington. Eason was a five-star recruit out of Lake Stevens, Wash (we should note he has not said he intends to transfer after being beat out by freshman sensation Jake Fromm).

Colorado

Colorado’s McKinley Wright IV was named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week in helping lead the Buffs to a pair of top-15 upsets over the Arizona schools, averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 assists in the two games.

Arizona State

Arizona State track and field senior Maggie Ewen is on the Bowerman watch list for the 2018 season, the USTFCCCA announced Monday. Ewen is the reigning NCAA hammer throw champion.

Stanford

We missed it Monday because of the Daejon Davis heroics, but Stanford women’s soccer midfielder Andi Sullivan won the MAC Hermann Trophy on Friday (Heisman Trophy of college soccer, The Washington Post on the link).

California

Cal football hired Burl Toler III as running backs coach, Rusty Simmons reports. Toler III played wide receiver at Cal from 2001-04.

Oregon State

Danny Moran lets us know that longtime Oregon State basketball fan Marjorie Marsh died at the age of 101 Monday morning. Marsh went to almost every conference game at Gill for nearly four decades.

UCLA

Jeff Alzina has been hired as a UCLA assistant beach volleyball coach, the program announced Monday. Alzina has coached national beach teams for eight different countries, including being the head coach for Greece and the United Kingdom.

Utah

Kurt Kragthorpe tells us about Utah gymnast MaKenna Merrell-Giles tying MyKayla Skinner for the all-around title in the Red Rocks’ 197.0-194.275 win over BYU Friday and how that’s a good sign for Utah.

Oregon

Oregon football coach Mario Cristobal hopes that the Pac-12 can elevate itself on the national stage after a disappointing 1-8 bowl season this year.
