Roundup: Stanford alum Maggie Steffens adds another honor to already sparkling resume

Stanford

Maggie Steffens' incredible list of accomplishments grew again this week when she was named Swimming World's Women's Water Polo Player of the Year for 2017. No doubt Steffens will continue to make a substantial impact on the water polo community in her post-Stanford life. 

Washington

Dubs, Washington's official live mascot, is retiring after the 2018 football season. Using his Twitter account, Dubs said, "I realize the time is coming for this old dawg to pass the collar to the next generation." No word yet on who will replace him, but we're sure there will be plenty of enthusiastic candidates. More on Dubs from USA Today, which complied some awesome photos from his puppy years. 

Arizona

After his mother initially told Michael Lev that he was a "Wildcat for life, " quarterback Khalil Tate has clarified that he will wait-and-see what happens with the upcoming coaching hire before deciding on his future in Tucson.

Oregon

Oregon women's hoops climbed to No. 8 in this week's AP top 25 poll, recording its highest mark in school history, The Register-Guard's Ryan Thorburn reports. The Ducks will battle No. 18 ASU (also 4-0 in league play) on Jan. 14 in this week's Sunday Showdown on Pac-12 Network (5 p.m. PT/6 p.m. MT). 

Washington State

WSU football promoted Darcel McBath, a defensive quality assistant for the program in 2017, to assistant coach status Tuesday, Theo Lawson details. Though his official title is yet to be determined by Mike Leach & Co., McBath will have a role in the secondary. His promotion comes on the heels of Alex Grinch's departure for Ohio State. 

USC

After catching 86 passes for 1,114 yards for the Trojans last season, Deontay Burnett has opted to forgo his senior season in Los Angeles and declare for the NFL draft (OC Register story). Whomever wins the quarterback job next year will need to find a new No. 1 target. 

Arizona State

Arizona State announced Tuesday that Shawn Slocum will remain on Herm Edwards' staff as the associate head coach and special teams coordinator. The 2018 season will mark his fourth in Tempe.

Colorado

Get set for Colorado men's basketball's tilt with USC in Los Angeles on Wednesday with this preview from Pat Rooney. The Buffs are arguably the conference's hottest team after a pair of upset wins vs. ASU and Arizona.

California

CalBears.com's Jonathan Okanes gives us this great feature on gymnast Arianna Robinson's love for humor writing. Her aunt, award-winning author Rachel Renee Russell, predicts the senior will be published "within a couple of years."

Oregon State

From The Oregonian's Danny Moran: Oregon State men's hoops is experiencing lots of success with its zone defense. The Beavers are off to a 2-1 start in league play.

UCLA

GG Goloman and Alex Olesinski are giving UCLA men's basketball valuable minutes this season, The Los Angeles Times' Ben Bolch writes. Goloman had a career-high 14 points for UCLA against Cal last weekend. 

Utah
