Skinner, Peng-Peng Lee and George kick off 2018 Pac-12 gymnastics weekly honors

• Last year’s seven-time Pac-12 gymnast of the week MyKayla Skinner earned the first 2018 Pac-12 gymnastics weekly honor after helping her team kick their season off with a 197.000-194.275 season-opening win over BYU.  

• Skinner picked up her first win of the new season with a 9.90 on bars, followed by the individual event title on beam with a score of 9.90.

• She also won the all-around, starting her season strong after setting the Utah single-season all-around win record as a freshman last year with 12. Her score tied Utah teammate MaKenna Merrell-Giles for first place, each tallying a 39.475 for the victory.

• Skinner is currently ranked in the top 10 in the country on beam (No. 4/tie), all-around (No. 5/tie), bars (No. 7/tie) and vault (No. 8/tie).

 

• Senior Christine Peng Peng Lee made a huge debut in her sixth year, helping the Bruins shine in it’s 196.250-193.200 season-opening win over Ohio State on Saturday.

• Lee took the top score on the uneven bars with a near-perfect 9.975, beating out teammates Kyla Ross (9.900) and Nia Dennis (9.825) for the win.

• She also won on balance beam with a score of 9.925, contributing to UCLA’s combined score of 49.025 in the third rotation.

 

• Freshman Kyana George made her Cal debut with a 9.85 on her floor routine, good for second among the Bears in the event.

• George turned in a strong all-around debut, taking second with a 39.350 and a pair of top-two finishes on bars (9.90) and beam (9.875).

• Her scored helped Cal take the title in the five-team NorCal Classic for the fourth season in a row Monday night with a 195.475, edging out Stanford (194.925), San Jose State (194.475), UC Davis (194.400) and Sacramento State (192.875).
