Roundup: Washington is clear favorite to win Pac-12 in 2018

Washington

Now that the deadline to declare for the NFL Draft has passed, Jon Wilner is of the opinion that Washington is the clear favorite to win the Pac-12 in 2018. The Dawgs only lost one early entry to the draft in Vita Vea.

Washington State

Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski was found dead in an apparent suicide on Tuesday, Kyle Bonagura reports. Mike Leach (via @wsucougfb) and interim Director of Athletics John Johnson each issued statements of condolences Tuesday night.

California

Rusty Simmons notes that Cal will have a tough time trying to contain Deandre Ayton when the Golden Bears host the Wildcats Wednesday. Ayton is averaging 20.2 points and 11.3 rebounds per game so far this year and could very well be the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Oregon State

John Canzano writes that Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith is seeking Beavers' identity. Smith talked about hoping to develop a multi-faceted offense and his strategy for selling Corvallis to recruits.

USC

Following the beatdown of Utah, Mark Whicker of the Los Angeles Daily News believes that USC men’s basketball might finally be getting on track. After a heartbreaking loss to Stanford, the Trojans swept the Mountain schools to get to 4-2 in Pac-12 play.

Utah

Lynn Worthy writes that Utah men’s basketball is focusing on defense and toughness after an 0-2 trip to Los Angeles. The Runnin’ Utes lost by double digits to both UCLA and USC and are now 10-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

UCLA

Thuc Nhi Nguyen lets us know that UCLA men’s basketball wants to play through Thomas Welsh, who didn’t take a single shot in the final 5:20 of the loss to Colorado despite scoring 20 points on 9-for-10 shooting.

Oregon

Steve Mims of The Register-Guard tells us that Oregon men’s basketball found positives in the loss to Arizona. The Ducks rallied from a 13-point deficit to go up one in the last five minutes before Arizona sealed the game with an 8-0 run.

Colorado

Colorado men’s basketball forward Tory Miller-Stewart talks about his season-ending foot injury in this link to us provided by Pat Rooney. Miller-Stewart played in just six games before suffering a broken foot.

Stanford

Stanford women’s basketball incoming freshman Jenna Brown was named a McDonald’s All-American, it was announced Tuesday. Brown becomes the sixth Cardinal player in the last three years to play in the biggest high school all-star game.

Arizona State

Arizona State’s Cairo Leonard-Baker was named Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics Freshman of the Week after winning event titles in bars, floor and the all-around against West Virginia last weekend.
