March Golfers of the Month

SAN FRANCISCO - Collin Morikawa of CALIFORNIA and Lilia Vu of UCLA have been named the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Month for March, the Pac-12 announced today.

Morikawa, a junior from La Cañada Flintridge, Calif., captured medalist honors at the talent-packed Querencia Cabo Collegiate (March 4-6) in leading the Golden Bears to a second-place finish. The Querencia Cabo Collegiate featured 10 of the nation’s Top 25 teams. He followed with a tie for fifth in leading California to another second-place finish at The Goodwin (March 29-31).
 
In capturing the win at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, Morikawa broke Cal’s 54-hole record by shooting a 16-under 197 (66-67-64). It was his second win of the season and third of his career.  At The Goodwin, he fired a 6-under 207 (66-69-72) to post his 21st career top 10 finish. Morikawa finished the month shooting in the 60s in five of six rounds and posted a 67.33 stroke average. 
 
In between his two collegiate appearances, Morikawa played in his second career PGA TOUR event as an amateur at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard and made the cut before finishing tied for 64th with a 2-over 290 (72-72-71-75).

Vu, a junior from Fountain Valley, Calif., earns her third Women’s Golfer of the Month this year and fifth of her career. She continued her blistering pace this season by collecting her fourth-straight win and eighth of her career, making her the all-time wins leader in UCLA women’s golf history. At the Wildcat Invitational (March 5-6), where she accomplished this feat, Vu shot a 14-under 202 (64-69-69) helping UCLA to the team victory. Vu’s final score placed her one stroke better than the previous 54-hole tournament record for UCLA, adding another school record to her list of accomplishments.
 
Vu did not participate in the Bruins’ second tournament of the month, as she competed in the LPGA’s first major of the year. At the ANA Inspiration, Vu made the cut and finished tied for 40th with a final score of 3-under 285 (73-70-71-71), including 13 birdies.  In addition, Vu finished as the highest-placed amateur in the championship.
