Colorado claims regular season Pac-12 Women's Lacrosse title and No. 1 seed

SAN FRANCISCO - In the inaugural season of Pac-12 Women’s Lacrosse, COLORADO claims the regular season title and the No. 1 seed of the first-ever Pac-12 Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. No. 15 Colorado (9-1, 12-4) had a successful Conference season to earn the No. 1 seed, only losing to then-No. 12 USC on Mar. 16 in overtime (8-7). The Buffs are undefeated at home, with its four losses coming against top 25 teams on the road. The Buffaloes battled with the Cardinal most of the season for the top spot in the Pac-12, including beating Stanford on Apr. 13, 11-10, in overtime to determine who would lead the Conference going into the final week of the regular season. Colorado was picked to finish second in the preseason coaches poll behind USC. The Buffs swept the Conference weekly awards three times this season and picked up two IWLCA National Player of the Week honors.

No. 13 STANFORD (8-2, 13-4) earns a No. 2 seed in the tournament after finishing second in the Pac-12 in the regular season. Three of Stanford’s four losses this season were against top 25 teams. The Cardinal swept the Conference weekly awards three times this season. It was picked third by the Conference coaches in the preseason poll.

No. 21 USC (6-4, 9-7) picks up the No. 3 seed. USC sept the weekly awards on Mar. 19 and are coming off back-to-back MPSF regular-season and tournament championship titles. It has also been to the NCAA quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons, the furthest that any team from the West has ever advanced in the national tournament.

OREGON (4-6, 8-8) garners the No. 4 seed after finishing the regular season fourth in the Conference standings, matching its predicted finish in the the Conference coaches preseason poll. Junior attacker Shannon Williams was honored with Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 19.

CALIFORNIA picks up the No. 5 seed after going 2-8 in Conference and 6-11 overall. 13 Bears have scored at least one goal this season and eight of those 13 have tallied at least 10 scores. Senior defender Elizabeth Koehler received a Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 19.

In its first season as a varsity program, ARIZONA STATE went 1-9 in Conference play and 6-11 overall. The 2018 season welcomed records and firsts for the Sun Devils as they competed in their inaugural season. Women's lacrosse was the 25th varsity sport added at ASU. The regular season for the underclassman-heavy team was highlighted by an overtime win over California (12-11) on Mar. 25.

Competition for the inaugural Pac-12 Women’s Lacrosse Tournament at Prentup Field in Boulder, Colo. begins on Thursday, April 26 with No. 4 Oregon meeting No. 5 California at 12 p.m. PT/1 p.m. MT, and No. 3 USC playing No. 6 Arizona State at 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT in the first round. The winner of the No. 4 Oregon/No. 5 California plays No. 1 Colorado at 12 p.m. PT/1 p.m. MT and the winner of No. 3 USC/No. 6 Arizona State meets No. 2 Stanford 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT in the semifinals on Friday, April 27.

After a practice day on Saturday, April 28, the semifinal winners play for the tournament championship on Sunday, April 29 at 11 a.m. PT/12 p.m. MT. All five games of the Pac-12 Women’s Lacrosse Tournament will be televised on Pac-12 Mountain and the championship game is on the Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Mountain.
