California

Your must-read of the day is this Sports Illustrated feature on Cal hurdler Deshae Wise, who escaped the world of sex trafficking to become a burgeoning star in Berkeley. Wise’s mother was beaten and used against her will as a sex worker for almost seven years. Fortunately, Wise says she wasn’t sexually or emotionally abused herself.

Arizona State

Writing for espnW, our very own Jonathan Hawthorne pens this article on Arizona State field athlete Maggie Ewen being the Bo Jackson of throwing. She’s a boss in the discus, shot put and hammer throw alike.

Oregon State

The NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals are complete, and Oregon State’s Nicole Schroeder won the individual title at the Madison Regional by shooting a 10-under 206 over three rounds. Unfortunately for the Beavs, they won’t be making the trek to Stillwater, Oklahoma for the NCAA Championships with Schroeder.

Colorado

While the Beavers didn’t make the top-six cut in Madison, Colorado women’s golf advanced to the NCAA Championships by one stroke after missing out on the NCAA Championships by a stroke each of the last two years. The Buffs are one of seven Pac-12 teams heading to the NCAA Championships.

UCLA

Meanwhile, here’s some video of UCLA women’s golfer Patty Tavatanakit winning the individual title at the San Francisco Regional, produced by our guy Rob Bloyd. The Bruins are also off to the NCAA Championships as a team after finishing in second behind Stanford at the regional.

Washington

After signing a 3-year extension worth at least $1.1 million per year, Washington co-defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake is the highest-paid assistant in program history, Adam Jude notes.

Utah

Former Utah wide receiver Raelon Singleton is transferring to Houston, he announced on Twitter Wednesday. Lynn Worthy has more details in the link.

Arizona

Arizona women’s swimmer Sarah Shimomura was named the Pac-12 Sportsmanship Award winner for 2017-18, the conference announced Wednesday.

USC

USC women’s soccer added two graduate transfers to the team, head coach Keidane McAlpine announced Wednesday – Jessie Holmes (Florida) and Megan McCashland (Notre Dame). The Trojans already had the top-ranked recruiting class in the country before these hauls.

Washington State

Zach Pereles of Yahoo Sports details the friendship between Drew Bledsoe and Terry Rozier, the Boston Celtics guard who has propelled his team to the Eastern Conference Finals. This all started in the first round of the playoffs when Rozier called Milwaukee Bucks guard Eric Bledsoe Drew Bledsoe (there was a little back-and-forth between the two), and then he showed up in a Bledsoe New England Patriots jersey for Game 1 of the second round. The former Wazzu QB showed his support in Boston Wednesday night for Game 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers, rocking a Terry Rozier jersey.

Stanford

CBS Sports ranks David Shaw seventh among all Power Five college football coaches. Only Washington’s Chris Petersen is higher in the Pac-12 at No. 5.

Oregon

Ahead of the final series of the regular season, Ryan Thorburn of The Register-Guard features Oregon softball pitcher Maggie Balint. The Ducks enter a three-game series at Cal tied for first with UCLA at 18-3 (the Ducks took two of three from UCLA to open Pac-12 play).
