GOLD RIVER, Calif. – WASHINGTON dominated the competition, claiming both the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Rowing Championships for the second-straight year (2017) winning 9 out of 10 total races. Both podiums had identical finishes with CALIFORNIA coming in second and STANFORD placing third.

This is the first time that the Huskies earned two consecutive league crowns on each side since doing so in 1993 and 1997. The Pac-12 had a combined champion during the three years in-between (1994-1996), where the Huskies took the team title in 1995 and 1996.

On the men’s side, Washington collected 72 team points for the league crown, winning three of the four scoring races. California came close in second place with 65 points and Stanford totaled 54 points to round out the podium.

With the Conference title on the line in the varsity eight race, the Huskies held on strong throughout the entire course and finished in 5:51.243. The Golden Bears crossed the line second in 5:52.691 and the Cardinal was third in 6:09.293.

The Huskies claimed the second varsity eight title in a time of 5:52.994. California followed with a time of 5:58.211 and Stanford finished third in 6:12.583. The men’s third varsity eight resulted in a similar fashion with Washington (6:00.616) and California (6:05.667) in first and second, respectively, and Stanford taking third in 6:32.267.

California took home the novice eight title in 6:07.173 for its top place finish of the day. Washington followed behind in 6:09.471 and UCLA was third in 6:46.488. In the varsity four, Washington stroked in first, recording a time of 6:41.900, Cal was second in 6:43.754, and Oregon State took third in 7:22.661.

On the women’s side, Washington swept all four scoring races to repeat as Pac-12 Champions. The Huskies earned the team title totaling 45.5 points, followed by California in second place with 36 points and Stanford in third with 35.5 points.

UW capped the day with a win in the varsity eight, crossing the finish line in a time of 6:30.122, followed by Stanford in second in 6:33.453 and California in third in 6:34.533.

For the second varsity eight, Washington led the competition in a time of 6:36.733. California placed second in 6:42.675 and Stanford came in third at 6:52.558.

The Huskies took home the third varsity eight title in 6:44.975, as the story was the same with California placing second in 6:50.821 and Stanford closing out at 7:02.162. Washington also captured the varsity four trophy in 7:25.156. California trailed behind at 7:29.156 and Stanford earned the bronze in 7:42.019.

Next up for Pac-12 crews include the 2018 NCAA Women’s Championships, held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla. May 25-27. The Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship (IRAs) will be held June  1-3, on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
