NCAA Men's Tennis Championships: UCLA falls to Ohio State in semifinals

After an impressive tear to reach the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships semifinal round, UCLA fell to Ohio State, ending the Bruins' season a round shy of advancing to the title match.

Monday's title match featured multiple lightning delays. Action eventually wrapped up around 6 p.m. PT. The two teams originally began battling at 11:00 a.m.

UCLA

No. 3 Ohio State defeats No. 2 seed UCLA, 4-1

UCLA, which defeated USC on Saturday to advance in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, dropped the doubles point before both teams retreated for a nearly three-hour delay. In doubles play, UCLA's duo of Martin Redlicki and Evan Zhu edged out their opponents. But overall the Bruins stumbled to close things out after forcing tiebreakers on courts 2 and 3.

Connor Hance collected the lone singles point for the Bruins, a 7-5, 6-3 win on court 6. That evened things up at 1-1 in the overall match picture before the Buckeyes pieced together win after win to end the Bruins' season.

Martin Redlicki showed grit by pushing things to three sets on court 1 before ultimately falling, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.

Ohio State next took the win on court 4 as the contest once again went to three sets before Logan Staggs fell 3-6, 6-3, 3-6. Maxime Cressy fell on court 5 — 2-6, 6-3, 4-6 — as the Buckeyes clinched the match, 4-1.

UCLA, crowned this year's Pac-12 Champion, finishes its season 30-3. Ohio State will meet host Wake Forest in the finals.
