Foerster, Green Win Pac-12 Track Weekly Awards

Apr 16, 2024

SEATTLE – For the second time this season, the Huskies have captured multiple Pac-12 Athlete of the Week awards in one week. Coming off a pair of blazingly fast 1,500-meter runs at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Chloe Foerster has won Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Nathan Green has been named Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

Foerster powered through a downpour to cross the line in Azusa, Calif. in 4:07.96, finishing with an identical time to Melissa Riggins of Georgetown. Riggins got an edge by .004 (four thousandths) of a second as she and Foerster now rank 1-2 in the NCAA this season. It also ranks Foerster 13th overall in NCAA history and second in UW history. She is just the second Husky to break 4:10 in the 1,500m, joining teammate Sophie O'Sullivan who did it multiple times in 2023.

Green had a similar one-on-one battle in the top heat of the men's 1,500-meters, and though he was edged out by Colin Sahlman of Northern Arizona, their two times went to No. 2 and No. 4 in NCAA history for marks set during the collegiate season. Green, the defending NCAA Outdoor 1,500-meter champion, ran the fastest time of his career in 3:34.79.

Green's time was just shy of Joe Waskom's school record of 3:34.64, which he ran in Europe last summer, but Green's time is the fastest ever run by a Dawg within the outdoor collegiate campaign. The only other Husky to go sub-3:35 was Sam Tanner, who went 3:34.72 in 2021 in a rarely contested indoor 1,500-meters.

This is the first Pac-12 Athlete of the Week award for both Foerster and Green. Washington has now won five Pac-12 Athlete of the Week awards this season.

The distance squad will be off this week, but UW's sprinters, jumpers and throwers are all headed to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
