McMullen Starts Heptathlon on Day One in Cali

WALNUT, Calif. — Avery McMullen represented the Colorado Buffaloes' track and field teams on Wednesday's first day of the Mt. SAC Relays here at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

McMullen competed in the heptathlon and put together a score of 3507 points after the first four events. She sits 10th out of 18 total participants with the long jump, javelin throw and the 800-meter remaining on Thursday.

McMullen started the day placing ninth in the 100-meter hurdles and followed it up with a sixth-place finish in the high jump.

Shortly after, she competed in the shot put before earning her best mark of the day in the 200-meter. She placed fourth in the race with a time of 23.85, a new personal record for McMullen.

McMullen will continue competing in the heptathlon at 12 p.m. MT on Thursday. The long jump will start at noon followed by the javelin throw at 2 p.m. and the 800m at 4 p.m.

Gustavo Alfonso, Jada Green and Alaina Fantaski will also get their first taste of action at the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday. All three Colorado athletes will compete in separate javelin throw events with Fantaski competing in the morning and Alfonso and Green in the evening.
