No. 7 Bears Top No. 17 GCU, No. 12 Washington

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 7 California beach volleyball team (20-10) picked up a pair of wins Friday to open the Stanford Invite. The Golden Bears dropped just one match, sweeping No. 17 Grand Canyon 5-0 and defeating No. 12 Washington 4-1.
 
Junior Ella Dreibholz reached a career milestone earning her 75th win, which ranks fourth all time.

Cal dropped just two sets in the first dual of the weekend to earn its 12th 5-0 win of the season. A handful of new pairs took the sand for the first time including Emma Donley and Kendall Peters on court three, Dreibholz and Lara Boos on court four, and Portia Sherman and Jenna Colligan on court five.

The second match was a closer contest as the Huskies grabbed the first two sets of the dual, but Dreibholz and Boos battled back to take court four and give the Bears a 1-0 lead. UW answered with a win on court one to even the dual at one apiece.
 
Sherman and Colligan put Cal back in front with a straight-set win on five and the court-three pair of Gia Fisher and Marilu Pally sealed the match with a sweep of its own.
