Trojans Fall at Home to Sacramento State, 6-3

IRVINE, Calif. – A trio of unearned runs in the sixth inning sank the USC baseball team against Sacramento State on Friday night, with the Trojans falling 6-3 in the nonconference matchup.
 
USC falls to 18-20 with the loss, while the Hornets improve to 19-21.
 
The Trojans struck first in the fourth inning when Ryan Jackson drove in Austin Overn. After Sac State tied things up in the top of the fifth, Ethan Hedges led off the bottom half of the inning with a triple and was sacrificed home by Brayden Dowd.
 
The visitors would take the lead in the sixth, when an error extended the inning with two runners on base and Jaxon Byrd hit a three-run homer. USC cut it back to a one-run game in the seventh, but the Hornets scored two in the ninth to make it 6-3.
 
Tyler Stromsborg got the start and took the loss, but all four runs he allowed were unearned. Fisher Johnson and Xavier Martinez each had scoreless relief outings.
