Flynn Earns First MPSF Player Of The Week Award

Apr 23, 2024

BERKELEY – After tying a season high with five goals in Friday's 11-6 win at No. 3 Stanford, California women's water polo attacker Elena Flynn was named the MPSF Player of the Week for the first time, it was announced Tuesday.

Flynn capped off her debut season at Cal with a bang, putting away five goals from distance on just seven shot attempts to go with one earned exclusion. She single-handedly outscored the Cardinal in the first half, putting the Golden Bears ahead 8-3 with her fourth goal in the final seconds of the second quarter.

It was the second five-goal outing as a Bear for Flynn, who helped power Cal to its largest win against Stanford since 1997. The performance also made her first on the team in goals (38), five-goal games (2) and four-goal games (4).

Flynn has now earned two conference honors so far this year. She was previously named the MPSF Newcomer of the Week on March 12.

The Bears are set to start postseason play in the MPSF Championship Quarterfinal Round this Friday at noon PT against No. 18 San Jose State.
