Bears Headed To Las Vegas NCAA Regional

Apr 24, 2024

BERKELEY – The California women's golf team earned a berth in the 2024 NCAA Championships and is set to compete at Spanish Trail Country Club from May 6-8 in the Las Vegas Regional.

This will be the Bears' 23rd trip to regionals since 2000 and their final one playing under longtime head coach Nancy McDaniel, who last Thursday announced that she will be retiring following the conclusion of her 29th season. McDaniel was also named to the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024 earlier today.

The No. 5-seeded Bears will be one of 12 teams competing in the Las Vegas Regional, which will be hosted by UNLV. The field includes two other Pac-12 schools in top-seeded UCLA and No. 3 seed Arizona.

Since setting four program records at the Molly Invitational in September, the Bears have continued to make this a season to remember. They defeated No. 1 Stanford 4-3 in the Big Match and came from behind to win the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in October, sealing the program's first-ever run of three straight victories. Cal heads to regionals after earning top-five finishes in five of its last nine tournaments.

In total, there will be 396 participants playing at the six NCAA Regional sites, each of which will feature 12 teams and six individuals. The top five teams from each site and the low individual not on an advancing team will advance to compete in the national championships from May 17-22 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad.
