Cougars close out Oregon State High Performance Meet

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Nana Gyedu launched a personal-best mark of 16.07m/ 52' 8.75" to win the women's shot put, one of eight wins on the day for Washington State men's and women's track and field teams as they closed out competition at the Oregon State High Performance Meet Saturday.

The Cougs won all four relay events on the afternoon, while Micaela De Mello (women's 100m hurdles), Parker Duskin (men's 110m hurdles), and Maya McCabe (women's 400m dash), also picked up first-place finishes Saturday at the Whyte Track and Field Center.

Cougar throwers had a solid day all around as Blake Sturgis (64.33m) and Mark Schlichting (57.44m) each hit personal-best marks to palce second and third, respectively, in the men's javelin competition.  Washington State's multi athletes continued to get pre-championship work in as well, with Sarah Kovich hitting a PR in in the women' s 100m hurdles (15.02) and Mason Mahacek reaching a season-best 14.35m in the men's shot put.

Washington State's track and field teams will see a one-week break from its competition schedule next week as they prep for the 2024 Pac-12 Championships from Potts Field in Boulder, Colo., on May 10-12.  This year's NCAA West Region First and Second Rounds will be hosted in Fayetteville, Ark., with the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships returning to the Pacific Northwest at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., from June 5-8.
