Baseball's Ryan Campos Earns Second Pac-12 Player of the Week

Apr 29, 2024

Ryan Campos' outstanding performance in all three games against USC this weekend earned him his second Pac-12 Player of the Week title this season, after becoming the first Sun Devil to win it on April 1.

Campos couldn't miss, batting .667 on 10-for-15 over the three games, including a hit streak of seven at bats from his last at bat on Friday to his first on Sunday. That's tied for the ninth-longest streak in Sun Devil history. His blistering 1.133 slugging percentage saw two solo shots over the wall and his 5-for-5 performance in ASU's 17-2 rout on Saturday included five runs, three RBIs, and his 19th double of the season – tops in the Pac-12 and top 10 in the nation.

The catcher led the team with eight runs over the series, three more than anyone else, and tacked on six RBIs. He also picked off a runner attempting to steal second on Sunday, marking his 13th successful pickoff in the last 26 attempts.

The success this weekend comes as no surprise, as Campos is now batting a team best .375 in conference games and has posted 25 RBIs, four more than any other player. He also added three games to his incredible 123-of-133 (92.5%) career games reaching base safely, including all but one game this season. When he hits his next double, he will become the fourth player under Willie Bloomquist to notch 20 doubles and 10 home runs in a season, a feat that only five players accomplished between 1998-2021.
