Diamond Dawgs Win Third Straight, Top Gonzaga 8-2

Apr 30, 2024

SEATTLE – Washington took a big lead early over Gonzaga on Tuesday and never looked back as the Huskies took down their neighbors to the east by a score of 8-2 at Husky Ballpark.

Starter Jase Evangelista earned the win for the Dawgs, allowing a single run over three innings. Jack Sand tossed three innings of shutout relief striking out three along the way, while Sawyer Parkin gave two innings and Peysen Sweeney closed things out in the ninth.

After Gonzaga struck for one in the top of the first, the Huskies batted around and seized control of the contest in the home half.

UW got to work immediately as Cam Clayton and Braeden Terry took back-to-back walks to leadoff the frame before AJ Guerrero tied it up with a sharp single through the left side. Dylan Osborne put the Dawgs in front with a sacrifice fly before a long 2-out rally blew the game open.

Colton Bower beat out an infield single, with Cooper Whitton hustling hard to cross the plate right behind Guerrero. Blake Wilson then smashed a two-run triple to the right-center gap, with Clayton following with an RBI double to nearly the same spot. Braeden Terry's single to right brought home Clayton, finishing up the inning with the Huskies ahead 8-1.

That was all the scoring the Huskies would get but it was all that they would need as the UW pitching staff held the Bulldogs to a single run the rest of the way to earn a third straight win for the Dawgs.

Washington will remain home for the final midweek tilt of the season at Husky Ballpark on Tuesday, taking on Gonzaga at 4:05 p.m. PT. General admission tickets are available for two dollars. The matchup will be available for streaming through Pac-12 Insider.
