Friend, Smith Selected to NCAA Singles Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Arizona Men's Tennis student-athletes Jay Friend and Colton Smith have been selected for the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday.

The bid is the second for Smith (2023) and the first for Friend.

Smith, currently ranked No. 20 in the ITA Singles Rankings, has played at the No. 1 spot for the entirety of Arizona's season and has compiled a 29-9 singles record in his 2023-24 season. He has defeated 14 ranked singles opponents this year and has compiled an impressive dual match record of 13-5.

Friend is ranked 34th in the nation and has taken down eight ranked singles opponents during his sophomore year. He has tallied 24 singles wins over the course of the season, 13 of which were in dual match play. He has won 11 matches at No. 2 singles and won both matches he played at the No. 1 position.

The NCAA Singles Championships are scheduled to run May 20-25 in Stillwater, Okla.
