Lacrosse Downs Ducks, Will Face Stanford in Pac-12 Semifinals

LOS ANGELES– Four-seeded Sun Devil lacrosse (9-9) dominated with 12 goals in the first half of game one in the Pac-12 Tournament, eventually downing the fifth-seed Oregon Ducks (8-7) 19-12 on Wednesday. ASU will face one-seeded and No. 19 Stanford tomorrow, May 2 at 4 p.m. MST in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The game is set to be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.  

The 19 goals allowed by the Ducks was the second most they've allowed this season, their season-high 20 goals allowed came to No. 20 Colorado last weekend. ASU's 19 goals scored were the most by the team in their Pac-12 postseason history. 

Head Coach Taryn VanThof praised her team's effort, "It was electric. From the sidelines to the field we talked about coming out strong and having a third quarter that we're proud of." And they did just that, allowing just one goal while putting six on the board. 

How it Happened: 
The Sun Devils opened the game on a 4-0 run, flipping the script against the Ducks after the last meeting between the two teams. Mina Scott scored a pair while Bella Ingrao and Annie Haley fueled the 4-0 run. The two teams each traded two goals apiece to close out the frame and it was a 6-2 ASU lead after the first quarter. 

ASU didn't let down in the second quarter, tacking another six goals onto the board while allowing three goals to Oregon. Urey and Oldknow each netted two goals in the frame while Teagan Ng and Lindsey Dean were the other two Sun Devil scorers. 

Scott opened the third quarter with two straight scores. Ingrao followed with another and the 15-5 lead was enough to keep the clock running. Annie Haley's free position shot extended the lead to 11. Urey's fourth goal made it a 17-5 game in the third. Oregon scored to halt the run, but Emma Heenan's goal pushed the lead back to 12. The Sun Devils ended the quarter with an 18-6 lead. 

Two free position attempts led to two goals for the Ducks, which pulled them within 10 in the 18-8 game. Another Ducks goal made it 18-9 and the clock was back to stopping. Katie Haley scored her first of the day to put the lead back in double digits. Flynn Murphy replaced Katie Vahle in net with 6:02 remaining. Oregon scored the next three goals and the ASU lead was 19-12. 

Sun Devil Notables:

• With two goals today, sophomore attacker Lydia Oldknow has scored a goal in every game this season.
• After missing a free position shot today, senior defender Gigi Gaspar missed just her first shot of the season today. Previously, she was 4-for-4 on the year. 
• With four goals today, graduate attacker Shannon Urey hit the 30-goal mark on the season. She currently sits at 32 goals on the year.
• Freshman attacker Emma Heenan has scored a goal in the last four games, which is the longest streak of her career.
