LEADING OFF:  As the calendar turns to May with 3 weekends left in the regular season, UTAH finds itself in a tie for 1st place and ranked 25th in the D1Baseball poll for the first time since it was established in 2015.  The Utes have won the last 5 times Bryson Van Sickle has toed the rubber and his 2.62 ERA on the season is 3rd in the Pac-12.  Utah heads to Eugene this weekend to take on an OREGON squad that is just 2 games out of first place.  The Ducks split 4 games with Oregon State in the last week, including a Tuesday matchup in Eugene where Oregon turned a 5-0 deficit into a 9-5 victory.  Bryce Boettcher had 2 home runs in that game for the Ducks and 5 of his 8 long balls this season have come in the last 9 games.

#24 ARIZONA is tied with Utah atop the Pac-12 standings but is looking to rebound after having their 11-game conference win streak snapped in Seattle last weekend.  The Wildcats top 3 starters, Clark CandiottiJackson Kent and Cam Walty, combined to go 5-1 with a 2.33 ERA in the month of Apri while racking up a combined 71 strikeouts in 69.2 innings.  Arizona hosts a STANFORD team that has won 7 of their last 10 games and 3 of their last 4 weekend series.  Owen Cobb has a 9-game hit streak with 6 multi-hit games in that span, going 19-41 (.463 AVG) with 12 runs scored.

#7 OREGON STATE hits the road to Pullman this weekend as they sit 1.5 games out of first place.  The Beavers’ Aiden May is coming off winning multiple national player of the week awards after throwing 8 shutout innings against Oregon last Friday, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 14.  WASHINGTON STATE, who took 2 of 3 in Corvallis last season, looks to get back to their winning ways.  Grant Taylor has gone at least 6 innings in each of his last 5 starts, striking out 45 in 35.0 innings in that span.

CALIFORNIA has won 10 of their last 12 as they travel south to face USC this weekend.  Peyton Schulze hit .378 in the month of April and his 22 RBI that month were tied for the 3rd most in the Pac-12.  The Trojans have won their last 6 conference home games.  Kevin Takeuchi has racked up 3 hits in 4 of the last 8 games and drove in 20 runs in the month of April.

WASHINGTON is coming off a big weekend, taking 2 of 3 from Arizona in Seattle, but now transitions to Tempe to face the hot bats of ARIZONA STATE.  The Sun Devils have scored 10+ runs in 5 of the last 6 games to climb back to .500 in conference play.  Kien Vu has been on fire since joining the lineup full-time and led the Pac-12 in the month of April in AVG (.439), SLUG% (.848), RBI (26) and Total Bases (56).  The Huskies have won 7 of their last 10 and doing it with pitching, allowing 3 ER or less in 4 of the last 5 games.  Reliever Grant Cunningham has only allowed 1 earned run in his last 11 appearances (28.2 IP, 0.32 ERA, 30 K).

UCLA is the lone Pac-12 team in non-conference play this weekend as they face Cal State Fullerton.  The Bruins are coming off a 16-2 win at Pepperdine with freshman Mulivai Levu going 3-4 with 2 home runs while becoming the first UCLA player with 7 RBI in a game since Tommy Beres in the 2022 Pac-12 Tournament.  UCLA takes on #10 UC Irvine in a mid-week game on Tuesday.
